if the Port of Mombasa makes this much, why are we increasing taxes to offset budget deficits?

Then this https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/corporate/shipping/KPA-upbeat-as-monthly-revenue-hits-Sh50bn/4003122-4712660-llp72j/index.html

Dr Manduku said improved cargo clearance had boosted revenue collection. “In July alone, the total revenue generated from cargo clearance at the port was Sh50 billion, up from Sh30 billion. On average, KPA’s monthly revenue stands at Sh30 billion,” Dr Manduku said.

There is something am not getting or understanding here, these KES 50b revenue, is it what KRA collects at the port or KPA’s own separate revenues? But since Manduku says it’s revenue from clearing cargo, then I will assume it’s what KRA collects at the port, while a few other billions “leaks” through corrupt channels.

So here is the math: $496m is equivalent to KES 49b or rounded off to KES 50b. in a year that’s KES 600b revenue from cargo clearance. That’s a cool $6b.

Why can’t the govt just set aside a quarter of this, i.e $1.5b to pay off loans without burdening us with punitive taxes and unpopular IMF demands? $1.5b annually will pay off the current $25b external debt in 15 - 20years, or even less as revenues grow in future due to increased efficiency in trade.

on the other hand…

According to Trading Economics, Kenya’s revenue in June was KES 1.5 trillion, or about $15b. The combined revenues from January to June 2018 is a whopping KES 6.9 trillion shillings, about $69b… … where do these monies disappear to? or are these figures wrong? This is enough money to cover the current 2018/2019 budget bila kutusumbua na VAT ya petrol.

if half year revenues are nearly $70b, my layman assumption is that the govt will collect a staggering $140b this year… This is more than enough to cover the current 2018/2019 budget as well as Uganda, TZ, Rwanda and Burundi budgets na tubakie na change… where does this money go? or this figures are wrong and misleading?

However, this snapshot from CBKs data shows that the Trading economics data is correct https://www.centralbank.go.ke/uploads/monthly_economic_indicators/530403626_MEI%20April%202018.pdf

A trend I have noted with this chart is that July revenues are astonishingly low, then the figures rise steadily and peak after March/April… How can the govt collect KES 1.3 trillion in June 2017 and then KES 95 bilion the next month, July 2017 ? That is a huge drop!

Anyway, my assumptions are very amateurish, expert opinions and insults are welcome.

Okwonko unasumbua…you are asking the right questions but at the wrong end of elections

Lol. You’re assuming this is new money. Money that has just been discovered.
Whatever KRA collects at the port is part of the annual budget. Which still has a huge deficit.

get credible info from trademark east africa. twitter handles huwa za kusambaza propaganda

Hehehe, hiyo ya June ni cumulative for the entire year.
We are spending over 2 trillion, so hata kama revenue no 1.6 trillion bado iko deficit

Ametuzoea

Those are cumulative figures sio per month. Wakisema June wanamaanisha from Jan to June.

Hehe hii tu ndio kitu ya maana umewahi post in all your 17yrs in ktalk

How do they report these figures… pale kwa CBK wanaandika monthly revenues… then hapa mnasema ya June ni total for the year… how now?

I have attached figures from Trading economics and CBK, hiyo ya KPA has too many question marks even though the same story is carried in the buisness daily.

ukimaliza kunywa gibleys kuja tujadiliane

Following

mteso, unaonaje hizi figures… am confused.

Following

Hizi parastatals ni creative accounting or Ukora wa hali ya juu;

I noted something weird with KPLC and KenGen Financial figures for 2017.

Kengen indicates in their books they received Kes 29b from KPLC…but KPLC shows it remitted Kes33b to KenGen. A whopping Kes4b difference which cannot be explained or wanaume ni skyscrappers tu wanajenga!:eek:

naona ni ukora tuu.

Na that is only revenue from the port. I believe pia taxes come independently. I’m also wondering where all that money goes.

Kuna mtu naongojea aoongee ndio nitoe maoni. Of course kuna shida mahali. Call him and I’ll comment after him. But your math is right to the point . Kuna mis-hits mahali

Ndii akileta analysis kama hizi before elections mlikuwa mnapatia matusi tu!

Revenues sio profits so if KPA makes kes 50b in a month you have to deduct their operating costs to get a clearer picture of what they really make
