they are making cool stuff but the prices are at the level of honda and toyota, their cheapest model starts at $19,000. that’s quite high for a majority of african population.they aim to target Africans, but they can’t compete with the rest on prices, they should come down.African governments should promote them.

Problem with this and even Mobius a Kenyan company is that the’re offering the same thing more established brands have been
offering for decades, there’s no reason to not buy a Toyota and buy Innoson when Toyota has a proven track record

They should disrupt the market, by diving into the electric car segment which has no dominant player yet, like what Tesla is doing right now.

Look at cellphones,Nokia didn’t dive in as fast in the smartphone business as the others like Samsung/Sony/LG and got left behind, giving chance for new Chinese players like Xiaomi and Oppo to come out of nowhere and eat their share of the market.

Looks like a Toyota, or a Mazda:).

true they can’t compete with toyota, hondas etc, but it’s a good start for an African company , they started way back in the 70s by importing motorcycles.they should price them way cheaper than second hand imports .
maybe they can cut themselves a niche market in Africa the way techno did in Africa and the way oppo did in India despite the big boys being already there

We have to be innovative and support our own to make it in this market segment

Hyundai was offering 10 years or 100,000 power-train warranty on their new cars, something even Toyota couldn’t offer and that is how they penetrated the Western market. In the final year of business school we did a research paper and in my group we chose Hyundai as our case study.
@imp is right, you have to offer something not being offered if you hope to penetrate the market.

Toyota started in the 1920’s but only truly cracked the world market in the 1960’s, took them 40 years. They disrupted the market by going into the small car segment and making them fuel efficient cars, their first tries were disasters but eventually they were setting the trends.

There’s a company called BYD that’s right now at the phase were they entering the market but these guys are making cheap hybrid/electric cars in quantity, in a few years they’ll be competing with the big automakers probably beating them.
