Internet via Satellite

Recently nimekuwa interested na hii story ya kaccess internet via satellite dish. Nimegoogle but not yet satisfied. Cheapest unlimited satellite internet ni +$200/month for business. And me i only need for home usage. Kama kuna mtu ana any info about this kind of service anishoo. As in inacost how much for home usage and its speed. Kama unajua any provider kindly share the info.

Above are yahclick rates. Uploading is free.

I’ve just posted a thread on this

SMH. Skynet is a service partner.

Ok nimeelewa. but hii story ya service partner ndio naikataa… Its good but hio equipment na installation yao ni kuumiza local mwananchi…am still browsing for a better and cheap alternative

How is this cheap??? With Orange 3G+, for the price of Yahclick’s 5GB package, I can get 30 GB of data to last me a whole month. If I exhaust the 30gb before the month is over, I still get to surf at very decent speed. Plus I don’t get to pay any monthly leasing fee. So how is this better than what we currently have?

30GB ni ndogo sana…hii upload ni free plus 1am to 6am ni freezone so unadownload mpaka uchoke…uliza wasee wa torrent wakuambie umuhimu wa broadband

Ndio nikasema hata ukiexhaust hio 30 gb bado net iko, speed tu itareduce but bado itakua decent. After kuexhaust fup bado mimi hutorrent ata another 30gb nikitata. Bottomline I just don’t see any huge advantage this service offers over what we already have.

advantage ni kwa wale wako mashinani,

Too expensive. How can you introduce internet service more expensive than Rob Conmemore’s?

how much does this cost you per month/week?

The weekly offer gets you 10gb for 990shs while the monthly one costs 2990shs and gets you 30gb. You still access the internet even after exhausting your data allowance. Your connection is only terminated at the end of the week, or month depending on the plan you bought. This for me represents the best offer for those who are outside of zuku’s coverage.

How available is this orange 3G+ that you use? Sisi watu wa mashinani are yet to see any form of 3G orange, ever since they discontinued EVDO that was widely available.

My understanding of the monthly leading fee is that there’s the option of either outright purchase or lease, whatever the client/customer wants. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Where I’m at it’s very available I don’t have any problem with Orange. I tried airtel unliminet and was disappointed at how fast the bundles got exhausted. I only had issues with Orange late last year when it kept disconnecting, but that lasted about a week.
My main issue with this satellite option is that it is NOT CHEAP. It might be the MOST RELIABLE for areas not covered by major isps, but I would not even term it as affordable.
Even if one opt for outright purchase of equipment, thats 47,000shs, which is a lot of money, at least by kenyan standards. Furthermore, the monthly charges are exclusive of VAT, meaning the actual charges could be higher.

I agree, VSAT ain’t cheap. Lakini saa zingine it may be the only reliable option. On their website, they’ve shown the broken down charges showing the tax component in them.

Anyone who’s lived around the mountains will probably attest to the frustration of getting a reliable cellphone signal. This to me used to be my greatest attraction to CDMA/EVDO: it’s largely unaffected by topography and obstacles such as tall trees, buildings and hills.

I wish I could own a satellite or cellular tower. I deal with long range wifi point to point connections. Which is greatly affected by topography. If clients are not in range of cellular or WiMAX, satellite is the only option.
