IT IS THE YEAR 2100 AND KENYA STILL CANT AFFORD AN F35 FIGHTER JET HELMET LET ALONE THE PLANE ITSELF! WHAT A SHAME!!!

The F-35’s fighter jet Helmet Mounted Display Systems provide pilots with unprecedented situational awareness. All the information pilots need to complete their missions – airspeed, heading, altitude, targeting information and warnings – is projected on the helmet’s visor, rather than on a traditional Heads-up Display.
This approach greatly reduces the pilot’s workload and increases responsiveness.
Additionally, the F-35’s
Distributed Aperture System (DAS)
streams real-time imagery from six infrared cameras mounted around the aircraft to the helmet, allowing pilots to
“look through” the airframe.
The helmet also provides pilots night vision through the use of an integrated camera.
The helmet costs between Kshs. 30,000,000 to Kshs.40,000,000.

With that as the cost of the F35 fighter jet’s pilot helmet, will Kenya even afford to buy the fighter jet itself which costs between Kshs. 9.7B to 12.2B?

Did I even mention the maintance cost of the fighter jet?

Acha waendelee kufanya biashara kule kismayu na kenya is not safe.

So you’re saying the Kenya government can’t afford 30 to 40m shillings? Jinga, ghaseer. The F-35 is not something you just order like mandazi at a kibanda. It’ll only be delivered to select countries, mostly those that played a role in its development. Ata F-16 tukiitisha leo tunaeza pewa after 10 years juu ya restrictions kibao.

there is need for approval. ingekua hawked all over terrorists wataishika and the outcome will not be good. 12billion for an organized militia is an amount that can be raised

An armed militia will not bother to buy one. For a very simple reason. Let’s say you have a mechanical problem. Would they even know where to start to fix. You have to call the original manufacturer to fix. And that time, it’s just a blown 10A fuse.

Who are our potential threats? Uganda? Tz? Why would we need f35s?

You expect advanced electronic systems to be still using fuses in 2020?

What is the end game in our somalia excursion? Younsee tukisema omwafrika ni akili punguani hio sio self hate. Try analysing Africa’s combined expenditure on the military and police and relate that to the general lawlessness and insecurity and you begin to see the low IQ we so often refer to. Can someone justify Kenya’s defense budget? It is there to be eaten.

Ulisomea kizungu kwa dirisha. There is something called a figure of speech and colloquialism.

It isn’t your comment nini inakuwasha?

Hiyo engine aina starter?
Also remember something, advanced military systems are usually some years behind technology. Aircraft from conception to build you are looking at 10 years min. Example, you start when you have windows 10 and when the aircraft first flies, you are at windows 15. And the parts are not compatible with windows 15 so you can’t upgrade. So the aircraft had to use Win 10. So a jet flying 2020 is using 2010 tech.

It is a comment in a public forum.

Stealth aircraft are a 70’s technology and its first use was in the late 80’s into the 90’s. The first stealth aircraft was shot down in Serbia using soviet era SAM missiles denting its lifespan by 75%. Reason is the tech is over hyped and more venerable than advertised. That plane was shot because it flew alone due to bad weather that prevented its escorts to fly along side it. Despite all the talk the stealth plane needs a lot of support assets in the air to support its invincibility. It needs electronic jammers planes to disengage ground air defences, it needs other air superiority fighters to escort it and take out foes. Basically its can’t operate on its own. Russia saw this as a weakness and scaled down its own stealth fighter program to 50 planes only for a more strategic bombing needs but not as a front line fighter. However stealth technology become obsolete when Serbia air defences shot the first plane. They used a very old technique and 1960’s equipment to track and shot it down. 100 million stealth plane shot down using a missile and equipment that costs less than $10,000. That knowledge soon got to Russia and China and they developed new air defences to counter all stealth fighter, bombers and drones threats. After that Russia ended its stealth program as unnecessary expense and will only have 50 such aircraft for its needs. Focus shifted to hypersonic unmanned aircraft. Too fast to be shot down, pilot less and very agile. For all air forces now, stealth is a useless luxury to buy, maintain and field as an effective front line plane. Its better to stick to 4+++ fourth generation planes like SU30, SU35 and MIG35 than a luxury toy called stealth plane that you are careful to use on a battle without sending an whole fleet of escorts to protect it. Also the planes have been mysterious crashing. Japan has lost one, Israel one and usa a handful. That’s the reason why usa is upgrading the F-15 to match components of F30-35 as its a more reliable plane and can be fielded on its own.

It just pains me that we still use the old F5s. Ata F16 hatujafika yet Uganda has a more sophisticated Sukhoi SU-30MK2

I’m certain China can make a similar helmet for less than $10000.
US overcharges for R&D and Wallstreet profits.

When such discussions are brought up, I always remember a certain Reddit thread about this F35. Some guy who worked for a subcontractor explained how they hiked the price of a small part to about $5000, yet the part itself cost less than $10 to make.
It is common practice when dealing with the military there. Exaggerate the price of everything. More or less like Kenya.

Even with their huge military budget, I would not be surprised if China is getting more equipment and weapons from their lesser budget than the US.
$1 usd in China does what $5 does in the US.

Not true. If so, why doesn’t the most elite military equipment come from China. One thing to understand is when you make something the first time, the price is really high. The pure OLED TVs that cost $2000 today in amazon were $16,000 4 years ago. Now this is just commercial equipment. Military is another level. True China can buy more equipment but it certainly will not be better.

@patco, after taking your morning meds come and see how mature people contribute sensible content in a thread.

You mean it’s not like a bodaboda helmet?
