A boyfriend of a top TV journalist claims he was shot and injured as he dropped the woman at her residence in Langata, Nairobi.
The man identified as Joseph Kuria Irungu reported the incident to Langata Police Station on September 21, claiming he had been attacked and shot on the left side of the chest.He told police he had arrived at the Royal Park Estate last week on Friday morning to drop off the journalist when he noticed three men standing at the entrance.
He had earlier on picked the woman from a club in Kilimani and drove her to her residence.
After arriving at the house, the man drove back to the gate to check what was happening with the strangers hanging around.
Irungu told police when he tried to establish what their mission was there, one of them shot him on the left side of his chest. The bullet exited to the back as the attackers allegedly escaped on a motorbike. They did not steal anything.
Irungu is apparently a licensed gun holder but it is not clear if he was armed then.
He then went back to the house and told the woman what had happened. The woman told police she drove him to Nairobi West Hospital where he was attended to and left to go home.
He was driven back to Langata Hospital where he was admitted on Friday afternoon until Monday evening when he was discharged.
Police say preliminary findings show there was no shooting incident reported at the scene. Neighbours and guards interviewed at the scene of the said incident told police they did not hear the sound of any gunshot.
Police handling the case said they have interrogated the woman as part of their investigations into the said shooting. “We have not established the motive of the shooting. No spent cartridge was recovered at the scene but the probe is ongoing,” said an officer aware of the incident.
The officers added they were waiting for a medical report from the hospital to establish the nature of the wound on the man.
A team of officers from Langata Police division visited Irungu at the house on Tuesday to take his statement as part of the probe.
Her lifeless body was discovered by her brother and sister after unsuccessfully trying to reach her the night before.
They found her in the bath tub with her throat slit.

Reports indicated that Ms Kimani was in the company of a white man, a neighbour when three other men, known to her showed up. The third man, in a white kanzu who identified himself as a pastor is said to have killed her in cold blood.
Police have arrested a man suspected to have gun shots wounds after shooting himself on the shoulder. According to a twitter user the man is said to have gone to a Nairobi hospital and was treated and discharged.
OPolice could not corroborate the shooting incident as claimed by the man as no catridges were found. The neighbors also did not hear any gunshots on the said date.
Lakini when you think about it, killing someone in a gated community is absurd.
The security firms nowadays even offer CCTV surveillance in their package( especially at the entrance)
