Jubilee Development - Chemususu water dam project in Baringo County nearing completion.

Client: – Rift Valley Water Services Board.
Location: – Baringo County
Surface Area: – 235km with diameters ranging from 400mm to 50mm
Year Completed: – 2014
Value: – Kshs. 5.5 Billion

The Sh5.5 billion water project marks the accomplishments of one of the Millenium Development Goals of increasing water supply in the country and is the largest project undertaken in the Rift Valley region.

The 45 metres high dam with a capacity of of 12 million cubic metres of water is set to benefit over 600,000 people through various projects that include piped water supply, fishing, irrigation and energy production.

Objectives
Construction of Chemususu Dam Water Supply distribution Project. The project will serve about 300,000 people and livestock in Eldama Ravine and parts of Mbogotio, Rongai districts and Baringo county.

The proposed project components comprise:

Baringo county. Badilisha Hapo.

Done, though it serves both Elgeiyo Marakwet and Baringo county.

Hizi diameter zinapimwaje @Shoc @shocks ?

That article iko na challenges when it comes to communication. Anywhere wanaongea kuhusu “MAINS” they are talking about supply pipes. @ 500mm pipe is quite big

@Fala 12 kuja kiasi, huyu ndiye ame specialize mambo ya maji.

400mm sio kubwa, GI diameter zake hupimwa internal. Thickness ya pipe varies with pipe diamter na pressure class

The figures given there, the diameter, included in the surface area, I thought refer to the reservoir.

And area should be in km² and volume in m³. Hapo it was supposed to be total length of pipe network

@Bwana Spear, there’s something wrong with gava projects nowadays. A simple, non-hydro dam costing 6 billion? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaai bana, what is happening nowadays? I mean Kibaki built the 8-lane, 40km Thika Highway with just 40 billion. The Japanese have built Ngong Road (about 10kms, mostly five/six lane) with just about Sh2 billion.

But hutu tu-dams twa serikali tunacost 4,5,6,9 billion? Na mostly ni earth?

Please explain, sir.

Then hizo distribution za dia 400-50 zinaanza hapo.

Hehehehe, sasa explain offtake

The construction of The dam you call a simple non hydro started in 1988 when @1776 was in a local primary school.

No dam in the world can be constructed for 30 straight years. NONE! There must have been stoppages and therefore a lot of wastage along the line.

Sometimes you have to stop defending the indefensible.

Poa @fala12. Now clear though the editor should have been more vigilant if he knew his metrics a bit better.

Man, I wasn’t defending anything was just filling in some information you needed to form a better and more informed opinion…

Si unajua Githeri media,

Many of these dam projects had started in the 80’s then stopped after the west stopped aid to the moi government, so when kibaki tookover design work had to start afresh

The history of the the Dam shows it was designed by Suerace Co. from France over 20 years ago, in 2008 the designs were reviewed.

We had a lot of projects that were started that became white elephants and othera that were never fully implemented. Some of these projects if better refined can be beneficial to the communities. It appears this was one of the stalled projects which were given a new lease of life, to fit the required needs.

White elephant projects are always a haven for corruption. The only consolation is that the project is completed and will benefit 1000s of people.

How was it completed in 2014 yet it’s nearing completion?
