The Karen Hospital has taken to court one of its patients who has been abandoned by her family over a Sh23 million medical bill.

The Hospital wants Jackyline Nelima Mutaki who was admitted on February 16, 2019, to be transferred to KNH or home-based care.

In a case filed in court, they argue that they have been unable to trace Nelima’s family for a long time and the bill keeps accumulating.

[COLOR=rgb(226, 80, 65)]Nelima had gone to Karen Hospital for an elective CS procedure but there were complications that led to her being bedridden and incapacitated.

[COLOR=rgb(226, 80, 65)]“The routine preparation for CS spinal anaesthesia was administered but she had complications,” the hospital says.

They want to transfer her to KNH which according to them is affordable but they have been unable to secure consent for the referral to a public hospital.

The case came up for hearing today before Justice James Makau who had directed the hospital to serve Nelima who has been sued.

However, the judge ruled that the case cannot proceed to hearing because Nelima could not be served with the petition due to her physical condition.

Since there is a stalemate in the case, the judge said he will here an application to amend the case because Nelima can’t proceed with the case in her condition.

How does the Karen Hospital benefit from this lawsuit? Ama this is a case of no publicity is bad publicity?

They avoid the expenses of feeding and medicating her. They also want her to free the bed so they can give it to a paying patient

Shouldn’t they be suing the anesthetist who sounds like he is the one who messed up?

Damn! So many sad stories from Karen hospital! I heard of a 4th stroke after an elective Cs last week…goddamm

Botched anesthesia can easily kill. You go in for a simple dental procedure and you come out through the morgue.

I’m just thinking how a spinal anesthetic caused this woman to become incapacitated. She must have had an inadvertent “high spinal” aka “total spinal” or they could have injected the drug into the subdural space (instead of intrathecal space). That’s the only mechanism really, because anaphylactic shock to a local anesthetic is very rare. What happened next is that this patient became apneic, hypotensive and they took too long to resuscitate her leading to permanent neurologic damage.

I need an ice pack for my tongue…, In short the patient should be the one to sue the hospital.

so Karen have just exposed their incompetence…let her sue them

Women should give birth naturally like nature/God intended. Sasa this woman paid to have an elective caesarian section and now these are the consequences. Sad.

Akili mingi huondoa maarifa.kwanza Nairobi, mtu anabook c/s and she’s capable to deliver normally.ati ndio asipanuke huko chini…they forget every surgery has it’s risks.daktari nayeye is driven by greed, he can’t advice accordingly because surgeries bring in hefty amount of money.thats why always insist at the moment the only place where you will get a genuine medical advice is at the public hospital.

Priss translate for dunderhead @uwesmakendeste

Madaktari walidunga the wrong place, mgonjwa akakuwa kiwete/cabbage. Hope the kid survived. Reminds me of the busia kids who became paralysed after botched vaccination.

Doctor explain to us in layman language pliz

While I agree some ladies prefer the aesthetics of c section, the key drivers of this procedure are hospitals and doctors.
They sell it as less painful and taking a shorter period of time compared to natural birth. First time mothers, and other mothers nakusikia hiyo, and they know labour has great pain, they opt for that, based off I’ll advice.

23M?? si afathali mninyonge

It still beats me why bonobos would choose to willingly procreate in such a shithole country

We need universal healthcare

Am high and just read it for like 5 times hoping I’ll understand everything better each time I read.:D:D
But imo the patient should be suing the hospital. The hospital looks like it’s playing reverse psychology in which they hope it’s gonna a mutual lose/win for the two parties.
