KCB retained the Safaricom
National Sevens Series title
Sunday despite losing to
Nondescripts 0-7 in Bowl final
of the Christie Sevens at RFUEA
grounds.
An elated KCB coach Curtis
Olago hailed his charges for a
superb season saying it took
maturity, team work and
change of style to keep the
series title.
However, Olago said fatigue
took a toll on his players with
six of his squad members
training with national sevens
team twice daily.
“We just couldn’t rise to the
occasion due to injuries. That
is why we had to finish the job
early at Prinsloo Sevens to be
safe at Christies,” Olago said.
The bankers collected seven
points for an unassailable 92
points from the series following
victories at Kabeberi, Dala and
Prinsloo Sevens besides
reaching the Cup final at
Driftwood.
Homeboyz finished second with
81 points after they collected
13 points for beating Kabras
21-5 in Plate final.
However, the day belonged to
Mwamba who edged out
Impala 24-14 in a gripping
final to lift the Christie Sevens
title. Kenya Sevens players
Collins Injera and Dennis
Ombachi scored two tries
apiece as Horace Otieno
managed one try. Lavin Asego
converted two tries for
Mwamba.
Impala responded with tries
from Samson Onsomu and
Richard Sidindi which were
converted by Nato Simiyu.
Earlier on, there was anxiety
when KCB dropped to Bowl
from Pool A behind Homeboyz
and Impala. However, Lady Luck
smiled on the bankers when
Homeboyz fell to Plate after
losing to Strathmore 0-7 in the
Cup quarters to hand them the
title on a silver platter.
KCB beat Kenya Harlequin 24-0
to lift Kabeberi Sevens before
edging out Homeboyz 19-5 to
lift the Dala Sevens title.
However, Homeboyz would
claim revenge at Driftwood
Sevens, beating KCB 21-17 in
the final.
