A think tank revealed the Kenya’s super-rich have stashed more than Sh5 trillion in offshore tax havens across the world. Since a tax amnesty was offered 3 years ago, about Sh1 trillion has been wired back from tax havens.

The report is true 100%. I have said it a while back. It worked in Nigeria and its working here. The amnesty will be extended. That report was drafted by Kenya national bureau of statistics. When CS Rotich introduced that amnesty in 2015 that Treasury office has been a bee hive of visits from lawyers acting in behalf of their clients. You apply for the amnesty, list the amount, where, when and how you plan to invest it here. Its approved and copied to EACC, DCI and CJ. You wire back the cash and invest. However you can’t use it for another purpose or wire it abroad again. That’s how Nyayo is building a $750 Kabarak hospital. A lot of nyayo era Asians, Mzee Jomo era golden oldies and the remnants of Mt. Kenya mafia. Its working and the confidence built is encouraging more to return the loot. Its useless out there. It generates more revenue here.
