Kenyan lands a job in Tha UN

A Kenyan has once again made
headway and made it to the news
for all the right reasons. This
comes as United Nations Secretary
General Ban Ki-moon announced
the appointment Carole Wainaina
as assistant secretary-general for
human resources management.

Carole Wainaina brings to her new
post “a wealth of global experience
at various senior leadership levels,
including human resources
strategy, leadership development,
change management and driving
organizational transformation,” Mr
Ban’s spokesman said in a
prepared statement.
Ms Wainaina, was born in 1966,
worked for more than two decades
at multinational corporations in
Turkey, the United States, the
United Kingdom, the Netherlands
and Kenya. She served as chief
human resources officer at Royal
Phillips in the Netherlands from
September 2011 to June this
year.Prior to that, Ms Wainaina
worked for Coca-Cola as group
human resources director as well
as in other posts, including chief of
staff to the company’s CEO and
president of the Coca-Cola Africa
Foundation.
She is a graduate of the University
of Southern Queensland in
Australia, Ms Wainaina started her
career as a management consultant
at Pricewaterhouse Coopers in
Kenya. She also served as special
assistant to the director of the
Kenya Wildlife Service.
The announcement was made on
Thursday September 25th, from the
United Nations headquarters in
New York.
Wainaina replaces Catherine
Pollard who takes over as Assistant
Secretary-General for the General
Assembly and Conference
Management.
