MPOST is an innovative virtual postal address system that uses the mobile phone as the postal address for letter delivery also dubbed Posta Mkononi



How MPOST works;

Once a user registers for the service, they choose the most convenient post office (out of the 622 Post offices across Kenya) where they can receive their letters/documents. Once a letter is received by the PCK, an SMS will be sent to the user, notifying them that they have received mail (letters/documents). The user then has a choice of walking to the post office to collect the documents or ask that Posta delivers them to their house/office/different location at an extra fees. This service costs KES 300 per year unlike owning a physical P.O. Box that costs KES 2,300 per year

How to register for MPOST:

  1. Send an sms with the words MPOST to 40777
  2. You will receive an SMS asking for your name. Respond with your name as it is on your ID card
  3. Next enter your ID card number or your passport number
  4. You will receive an SMS notification confirming your registration.
  5. Next enter the code of the post office nearest you where you would like to be picking your letters/documents e.g e.g. “00100 – GPO” or “00200 – City Square” (See table of all postal codes in Kenya on the Timpata here)
  6. Complete registration by making a payment of KES 300 via M-PESA paybill number 506500. Account number is your name as you entered above.
And that is it. Your new address is now P.O. Box 072…….(your mobile number)

I paid for this thing, went to collect my parcel at city square and the ladies charged me 100 sijui handling fee, they then proceeded to tell me hio 300 shillings ni ya SMS notification.

Tumia posta haiko busy. Use another poastal code. As for me I use it for free kuchukua bidhaa AliExpress.

but hawa watu hukua na ukora sana, mi niliendea yangu the same day ilifika na bado wakanilipisha 100 kuchukua nikalipa tu na nika chukua package yangu. next time nili order 3 items nikaenda kuzipick nikiwa nimejipanga na 300 incase waseme 100 per item, but this time package haikua kwa counter hapo ilikua area ingine huko kando wakaitisha package no.

Good Info. Hao wamama wa City square ata sijawahi waelewa. Some items unalipa, zingine hulipi. Hakuna standard procedure of how things operate there. Its like wakiwa na periods, mtalipa kabisa. Wakiwa na furaha juu ya good Dickmentation asubuhi, Hamlipishwi. Alafu all those payments done nowadays hapo 1st floor next to the rental boxes dont have receipts. Zero Accountability. You get a feeling hizo pesa zinaingia kwa mfuko za watu.

Nwy, this is posta not safaricom, a company that would have been dead years ago if it wasnt Govt owned. I usually dont expect much from them.

Yeah hio ukora ya kulipa 100 ukiwa na mpost iko city sq. Hao wanawake watatu huko juu kwa boxes mwisho.. Kenya corruption haitawahi isha.

You are very, very, very lucky. I did the same, went to pick my parcel, believe it or not on top of 175 I was charged import duty ya 49%. Nalia sana
