Kenya’s envoy to the UN-Habitat,
Sam Ongeri, may soon lose his job
following the damning report
forwarded to President Uhuru
Kenyatta over land grabbing in
Kisii.
This is after the report prepared
by Obundsman, under the
chairmanship of Otieno Amollo,
named him among the Kisii
Municipal Council land grabbers.
According to the report, Ongeri
used his position as the Local
Government Minister to hive off a
plot belonging to the Kisii
Municipal Council in 1982.
Speaking yesterday when he
released the report, Amollo urged
President Uhuru Kenyatta and his
Deputy, William Ruto, to match
their words with action and sack
Ongeri immediately saying the
UN-Habitat Ambassador flouted
Chapter Six of the Constitution on
Leadership and Integrity.
“Our investigations reveal that
Ongeri abused his office in
acquiring that plot. It is up to the
President and his Deputy to
decide the next course of action.
Other arms of Government also
need to take action on this
matter,” said Amollo Otiende.
Also named in the Kisii land
grabbing saga are Football Kenya
Federation Chairman, Sam
Nyamweya, and Zachary Onyonka,
the later father to the current
Kitutu Chache South MP, Richard
Onyonka.
The allegations come barely a
week after President Uhuru and
his Deputy, William Ruto, vowed
to deal ruthlessly with anyone
found guilty of grabbing public
land, especially public servants
beginning with themselves, after
former Prime Minister Raila
Odinga’s CORD named Jubilee
leaders, including William Ruto,
among the Karen land grabbers,
and it remains to be seen if
indeed they meant what they
said.
Ongeri was appointed Kenya’s
envoy to the UN-Habitat recently
by Uhuru/ Ruto and vetted by
Parliament, however,
investigations into the Kisii land
grabbing saga had not been
concluded.
