Lineage OS (previously Cyanogenmod)

Out of the Cyanogen Inc. ashes a phoenix has emerged: Lineage OS. The harder, better, faster, stronger version of CM will be ready for download this weekend, with the Lineage team adding a download portal, wiki and install stats pages to its website.

Over 80 devices will be supported, with both Nougat and Marshmallow builds being prepped as we speak – the device list will be posted separately on the Lineage blog. Every week will see a new release candidate let loose, with signed private keys for authentication and signature permission control. Root will not be baked in but can be enabled separately with an optional zip.

While a fresh install is a better idea, if you’re upgrading from a CM 13/14.1 build to Lineage, you can try out the (experimental) data migration builds. These data migration builds will be offered alongside the release candidates for the first two months only. There’s no guarantee these migration builds will work perfectly, but if you want the path of least resistance go right ahead. Just be sure to back everything up before pulling the trigger.

The Lineage team also goes out of its way to thank the many that have volunteered to help get the project off the ground, proving not only that there is a lot of residual goodwill stored up for the project, but also that Lineage is, true to the former CyanogenMod team’s word, returning to a grassroots community effort.

Hii story ya only certain devices supported ni major draw back. I wish these o.s could work in all devices provided its android.

Mmmh I don’t think its possible since they prepare and distribute the os for free. Unless manufacturers makes the custom roms official and start releasing devices with custom ROMs therefore developers wapate kakitu

And also remember some manufacturer never update their devices and custom ROM prepared from source has to have device chip drivers which can only be released by manufacturer

Problem is manufacturers have custom hardware leading to different types of low-level firmware that Android needs to work properly with the device.

Itawezekana kufanya OTA update from Cyanogenmod to LineageOS?

Am not sure but I always prefer flashing zip file as opposed to ota, anything can happen during ota process and u end up with a bootloop

the fork can work on any android device provided the manufacturer provides well-documented device sources for devs to work with.

true, thats why you will rarely see Mtk devices having custom roms as compared to Snapdragon devices

plus if he can flash a rom then he sure knows about Titanium backup

Sawa sawa tutaona. I assumed changes hazitakuwa mob, mostly removing traces of the Cyanogenmod brand.

yeah, its like CMmod in a new cloak.
