American based singer, Akon, is in
the country. The popular singer
who is famed for his hit song
“Lonely” , jetted into the country
on Thursday afternoon.
Akon, who had announced his
planned visit to Kenya last month
when he met with President Uhuru
Kenyatta, is on a business trip.
His first stop was at State House
where he endorsed Kenya as a safe
tourist destination.
According to Uhuru Kenyatta’s
official facebook page, here’s the
main reason Akon is in
Kenya;Senegalese singer, AKON has
committed to assist in Lighting up
Kibera as part of a major
Government led transformation of
the slum to a modern
neighbourhood.
The meeting and commitments with
the President are a follow up of
another meeting in Washington
during the US-Africa Summit
Akon met with Energy CS Davis
Chirchir, Kenya Power MD Ben
Chumo, President’s Private
Secretary Jomo Gecaga and Rural
Electrification CEO and agreed on
specifics for implementation.
@Akon will also participate in the
rural electrification process and
will hold another meeting with REA
to finalize on specifics.
