Many Believe QAnon And Other Conspiracy Theories...However Bonkers.

A significant number of Americans believe misinformation about the origins of the coronavirus and the recent presidential election, as well as conspiracy theories like QAnon, according to a new NPR/Ipsos poll.

Forty percent of respondents said they believe the coronavirus was made in a lab in China even though there is no evidence for this. Scientists say the virus was transmitted to humans from another species.

And one-third of Americans believe that voter fraud helped Joe Biden win the 2020 election, despite the fact that courts, election officials and the Justice Department have found no evidence of widespread fraud that could have changed the outcome.

The poll results add to mounting evidence that misinformation is gaining a foothold in American society and that conspiracy theories are going mainstream, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. This has raised concerns about how to get people to believe in a "baseline reality," said Chris Jackson, a pollster with Ipsos.

"Increasingly, people are willing to say and believe stuff that fits in with their view of how the world should be, even if it doesn't have any basis in reality or fact," Jackson said.

"What this poll really illustrates to me is how willing people are to believe things that are ludicrous because it fits in with a worldview that they want to believe."

What I am more worried about is the attempt to shepherd people to "believe" in a specified direction. Why not just leave people to see the source info and equip them to decide for themselves. That's just too dangerous. So what we have instead is a push by big data to monopolise "the truth". And a swelling number of the nouveau "enlightened" willing to see them accomplish it.

What is so fascinating, especially when I watch in real time. Is that the issues Trump is raising. I raised them instantly the moment they happened. Look it up right here on my Kenyatalk history. I raised those issues as they happened. But he is being painted as bonkers for raising them, and being ostracised. It happened right infront of our eyes. But 90 % of the world population are simply put, just idiotic zombies. Just go home Trump. Your turn to misuse voters is up. Let the murderers have their turn in peace.

Manze hata na dawa ,unless you bribe the joint session as a whole. Your beloved prez should just concede defeat. Humanity will prevail with or without american polutical shenanigans

This is what will happen on Jan 6.

1. Some senators will object in the joint session.
2. Both houses separate to debate and vote on the objections. (Simple majority).
3. The objections are rejected soundly in the house where democrats hold majority.
4. The objections are also rejected in the senate as some Republicans join democrats in the vote.
(If house rejects and senate accepts objections - split decision, Biden's win stands)
5. With objections rejected, Pence gets the unfortunate job of declaring Biden president-elect.
6. Trump throws a decade-worth of tantrums on Twitter.

If anything other than this happens, kujia soda kubwa.

NB: The scenario where every state gets a single vote in the house (Republican majority) only happens when the role of choosing the president falls on Congress. i.e. after the objections are accepted by both houses meaning neither candidate now has 270 electoral votes.

Don't be fooled, nothing Republicans do on Jan. 6 will change the outcome of the election Opinion:
Rather than increase stimulus checks to $2,000 for Americans in need, Republicans in Congress decide to increase political discord.

Hawley is said to have his eye on running for president in 2024, however, and this could be a way of trying to solidify the backing of Trump supporters.

Then again, Trump himself has his eye on 2024.

Who would dare go against Trump?
Hawley’s action will force Republicans into the uncomfortably awkward position of voting for the democratic process or voting for an undemocratic coup. A number GOP senators already have acknowledged that Biden won.

And who among them will go against Trump?

Republican Sen. John Thune already got into trouble with the cult’s dear leader by saying Hawley’s action makes no sense “when you know what the ultimate outcome is going to be.”

He added, “I mean, in the Senate, it would go down like a shot dog.”

Trump, as you’d imagine, didn’t like that. He’d already branded Thune as a “RINO” for acknowledging that Biden won the election, even though Thune had been a solid supporter through Trump’s term.

The pandemic rages. People suffer.

Instead of wasting time on what they know will be a losing proposition Republicans could be spending their time increasing the stimulus check amounts for struggling Americans.

Political antics and useless attempts to upend an election take precedent in Washington over helping Americans in need.

This in spite of the fact that, as the Washington Post points out, more than 90 federal and state judges have rejected challenges to the November vote.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins said of Hawley’s move, “I do not think that he will prevail in his quest. And I question why he is doing it when the courts have unanimously thrown out the suits that the president’s team have filed for lack of credible evidence.”

What will happen on Jan. 6 isn’t about credible evidence for Republicans like Hawley. It’s about politics.

While the people who elected them, and who need the help, are ignored.

Republican members of the House of Representatives tell CNN that they expect at least 140 of their GOP colleagues in the House to vote against counting the electoral votes on January 6 when Congress is expected to certify President-elect Joe Biden's victory.
President Donald Trump's Republican allies have virtually zero chance of changing the result, only to delay by a few hours the inevitable affirmation of Biden as the Electoral College winner and the next president.
There have been no credible allegations of any issues with voting that would have impacted the election, as affirmed by dozens of judges, governors, election officials, the Electoral College, the Justice Department, the Department of Homeland Security, and the US Supreme Court. But Trump is determined to claim he didn't lose -- which he did, significantly -- and many GOP politicians either share his delusion or fear-provoking his wrath -- even if that means voting to undermine democracy.
Both a House member and senator are required to mount an objection when Congress counts the votes. Republican Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri said Wednesday he will object, which will force lawmakers in both the House and Senate to vote on whether to accept the results of Biden's victory. Other senators -- including incoming ones -- could still join that effort, which Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has privately urged Republicans not to do.

Texas Is Trump Country....

A Texas judge is under criminal investigation for what prosecutors have described as an act of vandalism against “historic, segregation-era signage” in a local courthouse, The Dallas Morning News reports. Ellis County Judge Todd Little has found himself in hot water after a YouTube video emerged apparently showing him instructing another man to paint over a courthouse sign that said “negroes”—a sign that local authorities say should be preserved and allowed to remain in the courthouse as a reminder of the past. The sign in the basement of the Ellis County courthouse became the subject of controversy in November after the only Black candidate elected to a county-level position this year was given an office near the sign, forcing him to look at it every day.

That official, Constable Curtis Polk Jr., called it a “disgrace” to have to work near the sign. Little, who at that time said the sign was preserved so that the “evil” of segregation would never happen again, gave Polk a new office and, according to prosecutors, had the sign painted over a short time later. Little can be “prominently heard and seen” in a video of the incident as he “encourages and directs” another man to spray paint over the sign, while also telling two sheriff’s deputies to “stand down and take no action,” outgoing district attorney Patrick M. Wilson wrote in a court filing. Rather than forcing local authorities to rethink the sign’s place in the courthouse, the incident only led the Ellis County DA to consider charging Little and double down on keeping the sign. It’s expected to be restored, with authorities categorizing its destruction not as an act of protest, but an act of vandalism that caused about $750 in damage. Potential charges that could be filed include criminal mischief; reckless damage or destruction; and graffiti involving a public monument.
