There are numerous development projects currently being undertaken in Mt. Kenya. Many roads have been tarmacked and the exercise is continuing to cover more area. Reason? The so called Tangatanga faction of jubilee. Were it not for them, nothing of substance would have been done. They placed immense pressure on gatheca such that he woke up from his slumber and did something. The kieleweke guys were just telling him lies “venye ground iko sawa”. However, Tangatanga told him straight to his eyes that things are very bad. They opposed him directly and he had to do something to try and win the heart of the people. The insults and opposition they directed to him worked to the advantage of Mt. Kenya residents. Sai the government and the Tangatanga wing are all working towards pleasing the MT. Kenya people. If Uhuru could manage to fix the economy and make their businesses prosperous once again, that would put them back in their corner. But as much as he has done, I think Ruto will still have some support in Mt Kenya if he plays his cards right.
First DP Uncle Ruto had started his Tanga Tanga meeting across the 47 counties in the country. Rural roads, last mile electrification, Technical Training institutes & KMTC colleges per county. Water projects, street lighting and markets. Projects that have immediate transformation benefits to the rural people. Then after came the meetings, harambees and interactions at the grassroots. At that time President Uhuru was mostly merrying with RAT and odm leaders in coast, Nairobi etc when handcheqie was still sweet. In the hope to stop Chief Hustler from his tours, the projects funding stopped. What President Uhuru should then have done is to inject his own grassroots development projects or complete them since its his own government. He didn’t. The resentment grew. So therefore signature big projects in the region were started. Rehabilitation and revival of Nyahururu railway. Dualing of Kenol-Maragwa highway come into mind.
However the template has been made. Central and Mt. Kenya support will be negotiated by a complex courtship. First is development on the counties, two is accessibility and likeability of the candidate. Third is the future tie up politically not just presently. Past, present and future consideration. That’s why everyone else coming into the party now is immediately far in the outside. The support for DP Uncle Ruto in the region has taken a long, tried, tested courtship and the matrices involved from the grassroots to the national level. Someone new coming with only an endorsement from a boardroom decision in state house is simply talking to himself.
