If well placed some of those lights look really good but if poorly done the car looks like a moving Christmas tree and the mental health of the owner is called into question.
The strip lights are inspired by Audi’s day-running lights that Audi introduced after they revamped themselves to look serious and go for the merc/beamer class, a kind of attention seeking gimick, but before that Volvo had the same but it was the parking lights that turned on with ignition. Audi claimed most of their cars were dark in color mainly black and having the led lights on was a safety measure. The fad caught on and now toyota ist shiny eye goes to grogon to have them fixed.
The laws are there including the min and max wattage allowed but somebody is sleeping on the job. They are international laws that guide manufacturers. In the US at one time a fad of having all rear lights monocolored in red caught on. Accidents started occuring because a driver in the rear did not notice the red indicator then everybody asked why were the indicators amber in the first place and the law kicked in
Extremely bright headlights (and drivers who don’t dip theirs for oncoming traffic) is self-defeating. Juu sio wengi watakubali kuangusha gari zao kwa mtaro, they may swerve towards you and end up hitting you.
European UnionDirective 2008/89/EC requires all passenger cars and small delivery vans first type approved on or after 7 February 2011 in the EU to come equipped with daytime running lights.[14][15][16] The mandate was extended to trucks and buses in August 2012.
Alafu in Kenya you need to turn your fog lights on so as to discourage some oncoming car from attempting stunt maneuvers on the road…you need to be seen coming.
The worst type of mods on is on headlights, guys installing aftermarket HID (High Intensity Discharge) lamps in headlamps with lenses meant for halogen bulbs, hence producing a scattered beam pattern that blinds other drivers. the second most abused are LED bars(meant for off-road use) mostly installed on SUVs, again blinding oncoming drivers.
Any specific reason? Kitambo it used to be only on Volvo and we were then told it’s because sometimes in adverse weather/winter it can get dark when it’s not yet nighttime so the idea is to improve visibility (make yourself seen).
Yes to make yourself seen. A black or dark colored car on a stormy winter night is invisible ju hata fog ya kimende ni saucer. It is also the reason for side mirror mounted indicators. Rear indicators with snow smudged on them are non starters
