Fighting insurgency is more about winning the hearts and minds, in Iraq Gen. David reached out to the tribal leaders of the hot spots then (plus the military surge) and the insurgency was contained. The same approach needs to be employed in Somali, as in who are the influential leaders that Amisom can work with (not sure if this has been done though)?

The new government has been lax in fighting terrorism... they're idiots who have lived under terrorism for years and take it very lightly unlike Kenya .

What you're describing sounds like the "nusu mkate" approach...

Not really, just choosing the tribal leaders who need assurance that they can work with Amisom without fearing for their lives
Are you talking about tribal leaders like laira? The Amison should contain the monkey trader first before thinking about somalia.

These guys are ungrateful, instead of fighting terrorism they are more interested with changing kenya-somalia boundaries. Maybe their instability is for our own good.
