I wont deny Moi was a good leader. However, your analysis is one-sided. Moi ruled during the era of 1 man rule. Compare leaders from 1979 to 1998. Look at Mengistu Haile Mariam (killed over 1M people in red terror purge), Said Barre, Idi Amin, Mugabe, Nguema, Mobutu etc; they were so ruthless that they made Moi look a Priest in Vatican. In Such era, African leaders though they were smaller gods. Nguema changed the National Motto to “There is no other God than Nguema”. You see the environment dictated what Moi was.
Secondly, earlier on in the days of Moi reign he was good and social. However, the 1982 coup changed him. He finally learnt its better to be feared than loved. He become a product of a system that required him to be ruthless; otherwise he would have become a passing cloud as Njonjo wante. While Moi was tribalist and corrupt; it was a reaction to the system.
We have lost a great leader. Nothing good comes from Africa. That is why all the mongoz here are insulting the man. I thank Moi for five things, among others:
Preventing a coup
State of political stability when the rest of Africa was committing genocide on a large scale and hacking off each others arms
Serious upgrading of education institutions and establishment of education institutions in areas other than just central province and Nairobi
Starting Focus on Rural Development which saw the creation of projects in areas which would never have seen them in the previous administration
Relenting to multiparty pressure and ceding power…he could have taken the military option like other leaders in Africa.
Whatever blunders the man made, let us not celebrate his passing with hateful words.
That is nothing compared to the degradation of our economy caused by Moi. Moi was evil. Kibaki was the best president regardless of 2007 PEV. He brought too much development compared to any other president. Uhuru is only continuing what Kibaki started.
The biggest Kibaki made under my eyes was not arresting Moi.
If he could have done that he could have changed the narrative that even him if he steals, when out of power they arrest you. That time public was by his side. That was the chance to change the political dynamics of Kenya. The rest he is just like the rest
Magufuli is driving investment out of Tanzania and threatening if not shooting anf murdering opposition leaders. That is what you call benevolent dictatorship?
Kagame naye is still killing any dissenters to his regime. Whether at home or in South Africa.
That’s a benevolent dictatorship?
There is no such thing as a benevolent dictatorship. It is only benevolent to those who lick the dictator’s boots. Any one else is forgotten or killed.
Hapa nitakataa Kibaki ndio alianza hii tabia akina Uhuru wako nayo ya kuiba pesa na kuzificha. Halafu wakaanza kupeleka campaign materials China na kuna so many Kenyans who could do the jobs. Kibaki kwangu ni mefffiiii sana juu after PEV nilisema yeye mi mavi ya kuku brary fuackin.
Aaai hata mimi I was hustling watu wa ma dollar wanitumie… tuanzie na @patco . Najua wanafile IRS taxes huko kwao so wako na pesa tele… nikitumiwa then nitakutumia pia…
