MOMBASA/ELBURGON THRILLER ..(tail end bit).

Burial preparation was started in earnest and committee put in place. At that time, money was not an issue in Mombasa, and seeing that the cost was limited to only one day hospital admission and coffin, and other small cost bits, the budget was achieved with minimum ease.
But what was very sad was that the guy died from meningitis which the doctors had misdiagnosed and were treating malaria instead. thus his drastic quick demise.
We assisted the wife and family with everything and they didn’t contribute even a penny. Burial date was set for Elburgon and we were ready to set off. We hired several vehicles including a mini bus. Airlifted the body to Nairobi with wife accompanying it, timing the logistics with our Nairobi road arrival, so we would all set off together to rift valley in a convey.
We arrived at Elburgon, had a few drinks at the small dusty town and retired to bed and burial ceremony was uneventful the following day.
After burial we all proceeded at Highlands hotel inside a thick forest there, most of us didnt know the area well, but we had some local relatives of our late brother who were acting as our guides.
The hotel was rumored to be owned by the late Njenga Karume, and was a four star one, only visited by the tourists as locals wouldn’t afford it.
At the gate the security wouldn’t let us in, we were so many and very noisy (a group of about 100)…dusk was approaching and they were not comfortable with the large group. Apparently the same colonialist mentality still exists where a large group of black men even in their own country are considered a security risk, because of the few white tourists loudging around waiting for supper or whatever.
But the noise we made at the gate, the manager had to eventually let us in. On parking our vehicles, we proceeded to the dining/bar area, and you would see the shock and disgust registered on the white faces, when we arrogantly took over the bar and and all dinning tables. We were loaded and beer cost was not an issue.
All the whites run away to their rooms, until later on when a few white gals ventured out, I guess intrigued by the crude black guy mentality.
I do not IN any way glorify or allude to any superiority of the soldiers, but the guys know how to party, and their confidence level is VERY HIGH.
By midnight they had conquered all the white girls, and the white guys had to come back and try and fit in our circle. The hotel bar/dinning area would not stay open after midnight, due to their regulations and we all trooped to elburgon only nightclub then, hotel EEL.
We drank until all beer stock run out…The white girls were over the moon. and later on dawn break, many were chip fungwad by the guys to local hotel rooms. We spent the day drinking and retired to bed early ready for our back to Mombasa road journey.
Most of the white gals forged relationship with the navy guys that is still ongoing upto date. The return journey was one hell of a ride, and on reaching machakos junction, it was lunch time, and butchery meet was a bit expensive, and it wouldn’t well feed the whole group. So an old farmer, sold us four goats at ksh3000 each, which we slaughtered and prepared at an open ground, cooked ugali and had one heck of a meal.
On returned to Mombasa we pooled some cash and set up our late friend wife with a Kongowea vegetable stall…She later did well, and was able to feed for herself and daughter, brokering upcountry farm produce at the market.
As a man, one should know that life can turn upside down at a flick of a second…stay prepared and always have soft landing pac for your family, but most of all, hang around a responsible and caring gang of friends, respect and Honor God, and dont die with your seeds deep in your scrotum…leave an offspring behind.
