He did not blame the movie or the novels. He said, they gave him ideas on how to accomplish what he wanted to do which was to annihilate his family. The lawyer Magu used methods of killing he found in a novel to kill his family. There's a difference. He doesn't say he killed bcz of the movie.

Why? If his mom put him on medication immediately he showed signs of schizophrenia, all this would have never happened. She was a counselor and she knew very well that the boy was not OK upstairs but she preferred to hide. She herself told police that the boy was not OK psychologically. Why didn't she have him commited to a psychiatric ward.

We will know when they complete the psychological evaluation. If he really is suffering from an untreated mental illness then it's possible he's unstable enough to be influenced by a TV show. If not, then it's a cheap deflection from his true motive.
