Prof Olive Mugenda, who in an earlier interview said the three words that describe her are, honest, hardworking and innovative, was accused of living in a place unknown to her husband and cohabiting with unknown person or persons.
“Since the celebration of the said marriage, the respondent had on numerous occasions treated the petitioner with utmost cruelty, and to compound the said cruelty, the respondent deserted the matrimonial home and has been living in an adulterous life and committing adultery with various men and the marriage has irretrievably broken down,” stated the late Abel.
In his prayers to the court, Abel, asked that his 35-year old marriage be dissolved and his petition paid for by the wife. He further stated that Olive, an alumnus of Alliance Girls High School, Nairobi Girls and Dry’s Farm Primary School in Timboroa, Baringo County, had generally been cruel, rebellious, unwilling to recognise him as her husband and shunned all efforts to persuade her to live a normal family life, besides refusing to take responsibilities of a wife and threatening him several times.
Abel added that he had “not been in any way been an accessory to, connived at, or condoned the said adultery, cruelty or desertion.” The Mugendas were academicians: Abel attended the University of Nairobi for a BA in education and Iowa State University for a master’s in family studies, which Olive was also studying for at Iowa State after earning a first-class degree in Home Economics. That was in 1983. Olive went on to earn her PhD at 33, before becoming the first woman to lead a public university in Kenya and the Great Lakes region.
She joined KU in 1981 as a tutorial fellow. When the position of VC was advertised in 2006, she applied and beat three male applicants. She was the only woman who applied for the job.
During her tenure, Kenyatta University rose from a Sh1.5 billion budget institution, to a Sh9 billion behemoth. Some of her projects include a Sh1 billion library, construction of extra lecture halls, schools of engineering, tourism and economics buildings and a morgue.
When she retired as vice chancellor in March 2016, the university council proposed a Sh100 million send-off package which she turned down. Prof Abel Mugenda will be buried on January 18 in Thogoto, Kiambu County.

Many successful women respect their husbands, they’ll even get home cook and take care of the house chores after work, with the help of a maid of by themselves.
The breed of women we have these days have a different perspective or do not know how the house hold should operate.
Also the new breed of men (alpha and beta) as they call themselves, have become useless so women are having their way.

Your statement is self defeating because Mugenda should be from the generation that respects their husbands .
