Jeff Koinange said when he was reporting from DRC (I think in the late 90s), the whole country had around 500kms of tarmacked road, most of it in or around Kinshasa. Today it’s Africa’s second-largest country but I doubt they’ve added any meaningful kilometers of tarmac.
DRC income on minerals , is equivalent to that of some gulf oil that base their income on oil.

DRC is a banana republic run by mining corporations and military juntas. Surely we are stooping too low comparing our infrastructure.

I think its corruption run amok. Not to mention that the belgians and the west have kept it weak so as to exploit its minerals. Dont forget that at the time of independence, its was almost the only known source of uranium. This is in age where the nuclear powers were building bombs at an unprecedented rate.
Even when the US was creating its first atom bomb, they got uranium from Congo.
Congo should be the richest country in Africa by far. But, Kenya is far ahead of it even without having minerals.

Ningekuwa president wa DRC ingekuwa world power/economic hub ligi ya UAE… first i would rule that country with an iron fist and bomb all those militias in the forests…i would endear myself to the common man so that they see the bombing as beneficial to their well-being i.e peace… i would then enforce legislation that forces any corporation interested in our minerals to conduct any viable corporate-social responsibility projects for a minimum of 2 years before engaging in any exploration e.g building schools, hospitals, tarmacking roads e.t.c. You will be overthrown. France, USA, Russia, China have interests in DRC and CAR. The militias are western sponsored. Essentially these countries are a free lunch.
The problem is that these powers operate from bases in Rwanda and uganda.
