A FOX NEWS Aretha Franklin tribute has sparked criticism after the television channel mistakingly used a photo of R&B singer Patti LaBelle.

Fox News mistook singer Patti LaBelle for Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin in a tribute following Franklin’s death on Thursday.

In a video package highlighting the star’s most memorable moments, there is a picture of Franklin on the left and the dates of her life with an image of Patti LaBelle in the top right corner.

Viewers took to Twitter to express outrage at the error. One wrote: “The dis-R-E-S-P-E-C-T. That’s really Patti LaBelle in the corner wtf.”

Twitter user Charlotte Clymer also wrote: “In the span of seven hours, @FoxNews has lambasted “communist Japan” and confused Patti Labelle for Aretha Franklin, and we’re all kinda just like, ‘Yeah, that’s Fox.’”

Another wrote: “America in 2018: Fox News uses a picture of Patti LaBelle during a tribute to Aretha Franklin, apparently confusing the two.

“That’s okay, @FoxNews. We often confuse you for a real network.”

Brady Hoffman also tweeted: “So Fox News shows a picture of Patti LaBelle during an Aretha Franklin tribute but according to Donald Trump they’re ok and CNN is “fake news”???”

Fox News has since apologised for the error. Jessica Santostefano, Fox News’ vice president, media desk, said in a statement: “We sincerely apologize to Aretha Franklin’s family and friends."

Ms Santostefano added: “Our intention was to honor the icon using a secondary image of her performing with Patti LaBelle in the full screen graphic, but the image of Ms. Franklin was obscured in that process, which we deeply regret.”

The Queen of Soul’s cause of death was advance pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type.

Ms Franklin was surrounded by her friends and family at her home when she passed.
It was revealed this week that the Respect chart-topper was “gravely ill” in Detroit.

The Queen of Soul’s spokesperson released a statement to Express.co.uk on Thursday confirming Aretha had died. It read: “In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart.

“We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family. The love she had for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins knew no bounds.”

It continued: “We have been deeply touched by the incredible outpouring of love and support we have received from close friends, supporters and fans all around the world.

“Thank you for your compassion and prayers. We have felt your love for Aretha and it brings us comfort to know that her legacy will live on.”

majority of Kenyans don’t even know who Aretha Franklin is…Do this, post Patti Labelle’s photo ina facebook group like kilimani moms and dads(huko kwanza ndio HQ ya dunder heads) and ask them to type RIP Aretha. They will type RIP Aretha without knowing ni pic ya labelle.

You cannot compare FOX News, an international multi-billion dollar media organization, to ‘majority of Kenyans’.

If you want to be fair, check whether KBC, Citizen, K24 or any other Kenyan media company made such a blunder.

Drumpfpologists need to try harder than this.

sisi watu wa Trump hamtawai skia tukinyamba over non issues. Making mountains out of mole hills. We know errors exist but we ignore them.
Hata citizen tv huwa wanaleta news za Monday on Friday… and the world doesn’t end.

And what’s even more immoral, a real travesty ni mtu kulilia Aretha Franklin an American but ukimwambia, “Haiya do you know that our icon Kamaru is ailing?”

Unajibiwa, “Who the fuck is Kamaru?”

“Who on earth is Nicholas Bett?”

“Who in the world is Daudi Kabaka?! Was he an actor? No, I don’t know any of his songs?!!”

“Ati Misiani?! Huyo alifanya nini na alikuwa wa nchi gani?! Apan tambua nobodies!”

kwani foxnewz ni ya white people pekee alafu hio ilikua ni error tu ya kawaida no bigdeal!!

Apples and oranges. I take it from your contribution that you have no training in research methodologies and what can conceivably be compared.A more valid comparison would be confusing DP Ruto with Keter because you are Luo or Kikuyu.

Secondly as mentioned above, this is one of the largest media organisations in the US. Their electronic libraries include every media personality (even obscure Broadway figures you’ve never heard of). With those resources, which btw include face recognition technologies, making such a mistake is flat out ignorant.

Lastly, the Kenyan population is much more diverse in terms of info dissemination than the US. Comparing the two introduces all kinds of biases which in effect makes your assertions more of bar talk than fact.

You can say that because the environment you are exposed to would tend to think like that. However, if you’d take the trouble to expand your news horizon, you’d be forced to admit that YOU don’t understand it, not that it’s not a big deal.

Can’t blame the white folks. They think we all look alike. Ni kama vile tunaonanga wahindi wote wakiwa wanafanana au machinese wote wakiwa alike in looks.
