Private motorists in Nairobi will soon be required to leave their cars behind and use other means into the city centre as part of plans to decongest the city.
The Nairobi Regeneration Committee has proposed Wednesdays and Saturdays as car-free days in the Central Business District and Westlands.
Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia, who is a member of the committee, said the proposal is part of an ambitious initiative to tackle congestion in the capital.
The committee is made up of teams from the national and county governments and is chaired by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala

Without your car you have to walk to the matatu termini…you meet people along the way,…in the matatu too you meet others
and then it rains and matatu charges you thrice the fare and leaves you 10kms from your hood?
if they can assure us that we will get the same comfort and peace of mind that we get in our cars to and from from then they go ahead. Where i can choose my playlist etc. Sio kuamka na jamaican stuff at 5 in the mrng and Beethoven at 7 in the evening
I agree kabisa. I think it is a brilliant idea but don’t think it will catch on. Kenyans love driving too much. It is a sign of status.
