RVR concession was cancelled. there is potential in that line to encourage industrialization and ease movement

I hope they get more modern locomotives and wagons. Juu hizi za saa hii haziwesmek.

There is a section near Thika soil erosion has removed all the soil under a section the railway is just hanging on its own.

Kelele za chura tu, I remember offloading fertilizer at Ruiru Station in the late 80s when the line was still in operation, vile RVR should do ni kuweka restaurant coaches with fully stocked bars and dj @Touchlyrics onboard watu watembee cendro from morning to evening kila siku.

i agree, the viability of the rail will largely depend on new locomotives. i personally feel he counties should form a corporation that i tasked with restoring the rail and then allow private sector to bring their own locomotives. the corporation then operates as a toll model . that way the public can recover funds invested. it will even be easier to get debt financing.

There is a lot of tourism potential that railway line can unlock kwanza in Mt Kenya and Northern Kenya.

Allow me to leave this here ju deoro alikataa kufungua section ju ni shiney eye amesema

I would like to hire a farm overseer in January. Someone who has knowledge on fast moving export crops like french beans, and at a later date, flowers. Also livestock production, with a leaning on dairy cows, pigs and goats. Good technical know how of spray and irrigation programs is a must. We will start from scratch, and in the bush far from town luxuries, so this is not for the softies. We start small we grow together. Send your resumé to [email protected]

They are planning to extend it up to Isiolo, then link it up with the Lamu-Isiolo SGR once it’s built.
I guess it’s a long time project that will outlast the terms of the current governors.
The big question.
Will the governors who will follow be keen on the project?

Registration ni mangapi mingich mwitu?

building a link connecting nanyuki with isiolo would especially make it viable. cargo going to ethiopia and south sudan would be diverted to the rail then trucks take over from isiolo. and by adding a third rail along the track it can be converted into SGR

Privatization of Kenya Railways was necessary but world bank misled the process deliberately. In 2003 we sold it to a south African broker who somehow won the bid but had no money. He wrote a promissory note at Treasury before he took over. He then spent years trying to sell it for profit to train operators golobally. GoK just wanted the monthly wages of 400 million to end. The winner failed to add a cent of investment to it but received funding on the same from world bank. It failed completely, it was sold to RVR, more world bank funding followed and its performance failed some more. It was sold again to a Egyptian investment funds after it was declared technically insolvent and that should have been its end. Trans century which was minority owner wanted to sell its shares to CRBC but RVR majority owner refused. EU donors meet RVR and brokered a deal where an Egyptian investment funds co. bought it out as sole owner. More world bank funds followed. This year they couldn’t even pay licence fees and finally the licence was withdrawn both in UG and Kenya. Why did world bank kept on funding a failed private company? Are they holding fort for this colonial relic. Between 2008-2010 world bank came with a proposal to convert it to SGR. This was dismissed as the cost of redoing all bridges, tunnels and trucks was close to building the current SGR. The worst thing is that the truck is steep and has a lot of curves which would force the train to travel at a maximum 60km per hour. The current SGR line has a lot of straight trucks and smooth curves to travel faster.

Best of luck to the governors but they need a strategic investor with deep pockets and long term vision to do this project. The whole truck will need to be replaced and a lot of modifications on the route as well.

ilikuwa ni hapo witeithie opposite hio thermor station… but ni kama wali repair

They must think of SGR not the old meter gauge which has reduced capacity and is being phased out world wide.

they can revamp it for passenger service.

Which passengers will want to travel at 40km/hr
