I’m planning a road trip in the coming week. Who has driven there of late and how’s the road? What’s the best time to set off? What to look out for? Where is the best place for a stop over?
Following…
1.Traffic at changamwe(construction of the makupa bridge) all the way to mazeras.
2.Traffic from Athi River (Maanzoni lodge) all the way to Nairobi cbd.
3. I always leave at 5am and I’m done by 12pm latest.
4. Mtito andei is the better stop over because of the variety of petrol stations, eateries and mechanics.
5. People drive like lunatics when curfew hours are approaching.

If in Nairobi, find a way that will get you as close to/past Athi River junction as possible. That way you avoid the traffic ya Mombasa road, and reach the clear road quickly.
Its better to fly. These long trips on our roads ni noma.

Traffic heading into mombasa…
There is a stretch towards voi truck zimetengeneza sink holes depressions kwa barabara due to the weight…avoid speeding at this section as the car becomes unstable…
Chunga mabasi…kina mash poa n especially tahmeed…they overtake recklessly n will just flash lights if you are coming from the opposite side of the road utoke kwa barabara…n they have this behaviour ya ‘kuchungulia’ when behind trucks you have to move slightly outside your lane…
Start early if from nai at around 7 ufike afte…take shower n get time to move around…
