Y’all are lucky ilikua maji safi ya tap,.
Remember the day Uhuru won the supreme court petition in 2013?
It rained cats and dogs sio?
Haya ,I was at my aunties, her house is at the bottom of a kamteremko, on the right of the gate is a kahill on the left is a kahill, then once inside the gate its kinda sloppy as well.
On that day, they had dug up culverts that transported rain water from the right side down to a kariver , when they put them back, the didn’t bother to make sure that no soil was left in them, so it Rain’s at night, heavily ,the water from the right came down and as usual mvua nyingi hufangia soil so the culverts filled up and blocked so the water had to find some other place to go , guess where it went, , niliskia MTU ananiita at 12.30 am in the morning, “w… Dukire na mai nimaingirire nyumba” (si uamke na maji imeingia kwa nyumba ) it was my aunt, in the house was my aunt, her 3y.o daughter , her sons , 14 and 10, my uncle was out drinking, her eldest son lived in a kabedsitter upstairs ( the house is
a two storied flat) .
I get off my bed walk to the sitting room and there is a sufuria moving fast towards my room, floating on brown water my aunt goes to pick up her daughter , I go to wake up the boys, the ten y.o i s a heavy sleeper, so he just sits up and hangs his legs only to be hit by water he jumped like a maasai hihihi, as we leave for my cousins bedsitter up stairs, I switch off the electricity kwa main switch, my auntie calls her husband to inform him, he thinks its a joke and says ataleta boat.
Ground floor has 3 houses , two are used as stores and then the third is where my auntie lives. Stima za huku zimepita chini.
After an hour the rain stops so we go downstairs to inspect the house maji imefika level ya arms za sofa , so the fridge is partially immersed as well beds at least mattresses hazikua zimepata maji , there was a vacant house upstairs, sheer luck, they had move adjust the day before, so we carried mattresses and blankets to that place, tukatandika, then my cousin who lives in a bed sitter suggested we switch off the entire buildings electricity , we go do so tukiogopa yetu yote and everyone goes to sleep, only to be woken up by my Uncle who was calling for his daughter down stairs , kumbe he arrived akaenda kwa nyumba kama kawaida only kupata the house is flooded and no one is in sight so he thought his daughter had drowned, pombe manenos. My auntie called him up tukalala, asubuhi!!! The work I did? I did 70 % of the cleaning the boys ducked all clothes in baskets were soaked, there was a black and white dress I had to throw away, ilikataa kungara na vile niliipenda, cleaning afour bedroom house full of mad by my self then doing dishes , cleaning sofas , at least we had someone else do laundry, when the rest of you were celebrating I was working my behind off . at least the boys were made to clean the stores .
The water had brought down a neighbour’s wall.
