should they be allowed to secede?

To where… Kisumu

They can leave as long as the borders remain intact!!:D:D:D

This is what people fail to understand.
Nairobi, Mombasa, Rift Valley, Central contribute over 80% of the GDP.
Any secession by Nyanza would go unnoticed.
In any case it might be good news for Kenya as we would have another export market.

I understand Darfur is still largely empty land.

And you think whoever contributes to Nairobi economically is a thamakistan? If Nairobi were a Kikuyu&Nandi majority, why didn’t Jubilee score the highest votes?
Migration to respective economic strongholds, underdeveloped as they may be will affect Nairobi and your country’s GDP negatively.
The guys getting out won’t have it better economically either.

India has like a trillion people. Yet US has less people with a GDP about 8 times larger than India.
Kikuyu may not have the numbers 50%+1 majority in Nairobi, but they contribute more to the GDP of Nairobi than all other tribes combined.
If we were to be honest, most Luos work in factories or construction sites owned by Indians and Kikuyus.
Nairobi economy is dominated by Kikuyu. #Fact
And even if there was to be migration, people will still tend to stick to the more developed areas than go back to the poverty awaiting them upcountry.

Go to an economics class before putting forth useless comparisons.
First of all, it is not the 10 Kikuyus in Runda that turn over the largest volume of economic output. Contrary, the mjengo Luos that you gladly despise each spends Kes 1,000 renting the 100 shanties owned by your rich Kikuyu uncle.
While at it they buy from mama Wambo sukuma, Ksh10 daily for 30 days, 50 tenants for Ksh 15000 a month.
The next day while you are waiting for political gospels, 100 or so Luos are at work constructing Rajesh’s site which he was contracted by your political elites to build. A single unit goes for 25million since it is in Kileleshwa.
Keep thinking as you do. Every nation needs people who are afraid to use their heads.

Please note: I am not Luo, Nandi, Kikuyu or any other tribe with entitlement issues.

Just how do Kibera and Mathare contribute to Nairobi’s GDP apart from the workforce which would be sourced from wherever. Truth is that no one will benefit from secceding, only politicians. I worry for the people who have given rise to the idea

Enlighten me.

You can’t lack a workforce in Kenya… Fact. Unemployment is real

Assuming that benefits the ones remaining with Nairobi which is awesome.
Now the demand for housing cannot remain the same. So you cannot build ghost estates you cannot sell. If you aren’t building, the oversupply of labour is pointless.
Not all economic sectors will follow that decline but building and construction is a major contributor to GDP hence my example.
Agriculture is good and might get a boost if the divorcées do not sanction each other to death.
I maintain my autonomy. I won’t be dragged into the mayhem brought upon this country by some tribes with entitlement issues. If Kenya falls I will seek citizenship elsewhere.

In an economic sense this argument is actually disastrous. Luos, Luhyas and Kambas largely voted for Nasa. Assuming no Kikuyu voted for Raila this tells you that many of those three communities have left their counties to come to Nairobi. Why have they left their counties. Probably because their is no wealth in those places. So what would happen if they seceded?
I predict, hunger, poverty, in at least the first decade. Internal war as the political class exact dominance over minority tribes within those three tribes. Basically hell. And that is just a conservative prediction.

As I had said earlier that seceding will benefit only politicians, u and I have no business to do it. Remind me of how ghost estates will come about, noting that the workforce won’t own the homes, as is the case today. Nairobi will still contribute so much to the economy. Do u imagine kibera and mathare guys having to start life elsewhere? That would be suicide. This loudest people in demonstrations will be the first to apologize. Life for them will be in total disarray

By poverty you mean the communities cannot live without Nairobi.
While that happens, Nairobi and your other be yoked regions will develop even faster?
I retain my argument that Kenyans are too immature to think long term, let alone prosper autonomously. If you disagree elaborate.

For once get off your high horses of entitlement and face the reality. There is no winner in Kenya’s split apart from political elites. The very winner of even the current situation.

Where will this workforce go to? Assuming there is no immediate development outside Nairobi, then you can only have an eulogy on most of them

They can live without Nairobi. That is not what I mean. It is a very simple deduction. When you live your county what are you going to look for? Work, better quality of living etc. So the mass exodus of Nasa supporters to Nairobi indicates that those conditions are not readily available in their home counties.
Next if they were to secede their economy will need a base. Something to export. Something to trade. Every single top income earner or top export in this country is produced in Jubilee strongholds. Coffee, tea etc… Our staple food is maize and where is that grown largely? We are still a largely agricultural economy. Think about it what would be your main income earner. What would be your main export to grow your economy.

Lets agree to disagree that seccesion will only favour those who control vast resources and that it cant happen .An economy is a cycle i need you you need me either way. But if you want to secede just look at what your county has to offer in terms of jobs and resources.
