There’s a website called Discord app where there are servers that deal with different topics. Today I joined one for politics. After I was vetted I could choose my roles based on ethnicity/ideology/religion, so I selected Nationalist and African. I went to the main chat channel and joined the conversation, then when they saw I selected African they started mocking me. Then it started a whole conversation about “Africans being inferior” and one of them mentioned Zimbabwe. I explained to him about the bad policies that caused hyperinflation, then another guy says “You need an IQ of at least 90 to understand inflation” so when I explained the term he was surprised. Later on I was in one of the Music Channels with this Serbian guy, I queue a Kenyan song and after it plays for some time he says “all I hear is ooga booga”. Have any similar experiences?

The blame isn’t entirely on them. Where do they ever come across an African? The only African perception is what they see in the news of corruption, hunger, war, humanitarian crisis and advertisements that try to solicit donations for starving children in Africa. That is the much they know about Africans. I have had various interactions with with people all over the world most of got very surprised of how I speak English instead of the stereotypical African accent that Nigerians have… There was one who told me that I must be a genius since I understand and speak fluent English in the war and hunger stricken country…
