NG'O Money

It also emerged during the hearing an earlier order requiring the commission to supply copies of the voter register to the two activists could not be complied with due to high cost involved in printing.

Lawyer Harun Ndubi representing the two told the court IEBC had written to them asking they deposit Sh80 million in its account to facilitate printing of more than 450,000 pages. IEBC lawyer Lucy Kambuni explained it would take almost two weeks to make copies if they didn’t go to a factory.

Ideally, the recipients of meddlesome NG’O money that comes with each electoral cycle try to maximise noise and visibility while suppressing expenses.

That way, the donors are happy that ‘democracy’ has been defended, while akina Mue, Kiai, Githongo, Gladwell, Mwalimu Mati, etc., retain a fat, unaudited sum to tide them over the coming 5 electionless years.

The IEBC knows how stingy the busibodies are. It set the price knowing that the 80 million photocopying fee will never be deposited.

Perhaps this puts an end to the habit of wasting Wanjiku’s money on worthless reams of paper.

I fail to understand the demand. How in the world would they have convinced the SC or anybody else that they had scrutinized 450,000 pages of anything (soft or not) within the time period set forth at the onset of this thing? The whole purpose of the trial is to ensure that justice is done. How does making people run around like mountain goats achieve justice for anybody? My target here is the ruling - was the SC being fictitious? If so, why not throw the damn thing out and save time?

I saw elsewhere some Kenyans questioning the 80 million amount. The money is not the point even though it is significant. We ought to skim more than what it appears to be. Were Mue & Soweto seriously going to come back and tell they found a signature missing? Roadrunners?

80 milli walichengwa

Why haven’t they thought of the digital way . 1o terabytes of hard disks would be enough to hold such data and much easier to peruse through than physical papers … anyway , ssshhhhhh , usiwaambie

The SC judgment of the 8th election was just a way of wakora network to get a limelight in the world now you can ascertain that.

that is what it should be. but some people have other motives such as laying the ground for the next five years of activism by “establishing” that the government is illegitimate or lacks popular mandate…

it depends on the motivation. what do they want to achieve with the demand? Funny, on another thread here on how to break up with a girl, someone recommends that you create a problem so that dame “aboeke” na wewe…they just want to be a nuisance; it is not that they do not know it is easier to scrutinize soft documents rather than hard copies.

It is justified. The register is more than 800k pages and given the size of the paper only an industrial level machine can do it not the river road Ricoh copiers. Now being sensitive info you cant take it to English printers or Regal printers etc, on the government printers can do that. These orinters charve per word not page. Now count the words in a page multiply by 800k @20/= a word
