I personally know of a certain uncle who’s brother was a Chief back in the day. When Chief were REAL powerhouse.
The Chief tried to secure the brother something valuable but he wanted ‘pombe ya chupa’ coz by then it was the thing (ni kama akina Johnny walker za sai). Eventually the brother gave up helping him and concentrated on his family.
When he kicked the bucket, you could see some people saying that he never helped his brother despite having well paying job and the ability to help his siblings. And they raised a storm trying to lay a claim to the wealth but the Chief had a well written will and even had a few wazees to ensure everything went successfully.

Kibaki was like the typical rich man in Kenya. They hardly help their siblings. There is a class culture in Kenya that runs along financial lines. But when your kid was looking for a decent school in school form 1, jamaa hakuinua mkono. Not all rich people are like this. There are exceptional ones, who will boost you if they see you trying. Other than politicians, most people who made it to top positions ( state corporations or corporate) have a rela who pushed them through. Hakuna jamaa huingia hapo juu by merit.
