Of COVID19, Religion & Science

I’ve been pertubed lately with everything that’s going on relating to COVID 19 and how religion and science are at loggerheads now more than ever. What’s your take on this? Should we embrace Science more as Kenyans or hold on to Religion? Or is there need for us to review how “religious” we should be, especially with this pandemic on our doorstep?

Science is good. Faith is also good.

The virus cuts across all. Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, Atheists, others. Haitambui religion or lack of. This fact should answer what we should focus on.

but the big issue is that these two will never be on the same boat

I also concur with this, this is actually a human crisis. Another problem that presents itself is how we as Kenyans have been looking down on Science and basing everything in Faith. I was just with somebody who was arguing that he will not observe social distancing and he will shake hands as normal with everyone. And he is in fact a very religious person, just like all we Kenyans are. So, belief in God or not, don’t you feel there is need for us as a people to look more to answers in Science for the pandemic and all other related pandemics in the future?

I agree with you. This ain’t a time to drag religion into this like the US vice president talking about praying for it to go away. How far did it work?

Now it has the highest number of cases and in as much as I don’t agree will the heavy handedness of their government, you’ve got to admire how the Chinese have been handling this pandemic. And the most surprising thing is that most are atheists, Confucians or Taoists. It does indicate on their rationalism to understand and deal with problems. This is something which we Kenyans and sadly Africans have failed to embrace, any mess up we leave it on God’s doorstep without as much as embracing common knowledge and Science in the case of COVID 19
