Of Loud Subarus

So there’s been a lot of talk on loud suburus, most recently with kina @gashwin on this thread here http://www.kenyatalk.com/index.php?threads/drunk-driving-weekend-manenoz.34204/

For clarity purposes, I’m going to explain exactly why some of these Subarus have loud exhaust systems.
Unlike what most guys assume, si ati watu hutoa silencers. They simply upgrade their entire exhaust sytem to increase vehicle power.

Shifting from stock to turbo-back exhaust systems immensely increases the airflow to the turbo charger. Here’s a short vid on it:

For optimal power, Subarus are then taken for mapping, where the entire ECU is remapped to reprogram the engine to increase horsepower and output. Kuna several experts wa hii maneno in Nairobi.

At this point, the subaru has already built up sufficient power for most guys. But, for guys who still need an extra boost, there’s the option of installing a bigger STI turbocharger, which might lower the torque but increase overall power. That’s when a dyno tune is needed.

Alafu kuna what we call Antilag. If you’ve driven a turbo-charged car, you know that feeling when you’ve built up sufficient boost at the right rpm alfu you encounter a bump, corner or a slow driver and you have to wait till the boost kicks in again. That’s caused by reduced airflow into the turbo charger. That’s called a lag.

So, to maintain a great boost even when you slow down, some guys choose to antilag their cars. Basically some of the air flowing into the car bypasses the engine and flows straight into the exhaust pipe, mixing with petrol vapor and causing explosions, pushing the air pressure towards the turbo-charger, hence maintaining a great boost.

Here are a couple of antilag videos:

Kutoa silencer ni stunts za watu wa Toyota :D:D:D:D:D

But your upgrading turns the car and you into a nuisance for your neighbours…

You can still install valves so that you control when and how the air flows into the turbo charger. Stealth mode and sport mode. So you control when to be silent and when to unleash the beast

Thanks for nothing for educating us on what we already know
now tell us something that we don’t already know

wacha kuwa airhead.

pilipili usio ila ya kuwashia nini ?

No. While optimizing cars for power brings noise, it is definitely not the noise you get with most kenyan subarus(1.5litre non turbo). Real optimization results to a high pitched whine(like a jet engine) like you hear in rally cars. Hii ingine ni kuweka custom muffler kusumbua watu tu.

That high pitched whine comes from the turbo charger as it builds the boost. The bigger the tubo charger, the louder the high pitched jet engine noise. Super charged twin turbos are the loudest. Now, combine that with a turbo-back or cut-back exhaust system and the power is amaaaaazing :rolleyes:

You do all that and only end up driving at 100kph maximum!

My boost starts with a whistling sound when it kicks in, beautiful sound :)

Thing is…for experienced drivers, it’s not about the maximum speed, but the boost. While a regular car struggles to find a gap wide enough to overtake, then takes all time in the world to accelerate from 20kph on high revs to overtake a trailer, a tuned car on sports mode can only do so in a matter of less than 5 secs. Have you ever tried to overtake a trailer alafu someone gets right in front of you and takes all the time till kingdom come to overtake a super slow truck? Hadi the window closes and you’re left hanging against an oncoming vehicle

Or guys who join the highway and cause accidents because they cannot accelerate fast enough to match up to other cars on the same lane.

Mbona hukutueleza awali?
@APEQ asande sana for the info, kwanza hapo kwa anti-lag sikuwa nimejua

Mama my friend, 55 years, imported a Forester last week. I couldn’t comprehend why she needs such a car. Her speed is 80 and 100 max. I tried to tell her to sign in for angalau Rav4 but wapi?

Cougar starter pack. I could be wrong though

That’s powerful muscle that lady fancies.

Its not about speeding. Unafikiria belta haiwezi fika 160?

Pia matatu za Rongai ziwekwe kwa hii list

Hii ndio engineering ulisoma jkuat? tis a shame.

Kwanza kuna shonde zingine za githurai 45 zimeweka hii makelele kwa paradiso huwa zinaskika all over Ronald ngala street. Aki kidero ile biro nimekuwekea wewe ya ballot day… I’ll send you home at 6 in the morning.

I believe Subarus are God’s way of thinning idiots from amongst the sane masses. Whenever i see one wrapped around a tree with an imbecile screaming for his mother from what used to be the driver’s seat huwa nasema “import more.” Kwanza kuna former Subaru driver naskia alizikwa juzi na speaker kwa mkundu. true story.

Hapo Galleria nilipatana na kipii moja iko na Subaru makelele ya blue, kitu inatoa moto mpaka kwa exhaust, kipii inataka ku-race na mimi, kipii ilibakia ikiona ma-yellow, no match to E350.
