On broken oaths of office

After appointment or election to a national office, one would usually be sworn in before assumption of that office. The oath of office would usually go in the lines of fidelity to the Constitution and serving all without fear or favor. For many, this sworn oath of office is taken while holding the Bible or Quran as the case may be, to signify the deepest respect and honor to the oath.
However, how many of these public officers soon trample on the same Constitution they swore to defend?
What does it say about their character?
“A man is as good as his word”, so goes the saying.
Of what use is the oath of office if it can be broken at will?We may as well do away with that requirement of swearing people to office…
What do you think?

Think it has become nothing more than a formality for pomp and show

Unfortunately.
I guess that’s why a written piece of paper has to be held for them…To read and go through the motions…They don’t feel it in their hearts.

Does not apply to fools that lie for a living. eg politicians, lawyers, pokos…
