Its about time. Its also legal. Its called compulsory land acquisition. They got an offer in 2016 after consolidation of valuations from their own surveyor and government surveyor. Negotiations for a year didn't yield much. Government valuation comes at 20 million for land and house. Your valuation comes at 30 million. Offer letter is 25 million instead owner now wants 100 million. Elections comes and goes, project is at 95% complete but stuck at this Rongai area where 53 land owners are demanding 1.5 billion compensation in total. Sasa its compulsory acquisition. Court order is served and earthmovers rumble. Kama Kenyatta family kin was bulldozed in Bomas so will you. By tomorrow morning the whole structure will be down and site clearance completed. Sasa endea cheque or EFT kwa NLC office.

ingekuwa mimi I would receive the full compensation and demolish the pigsty myself to salvage at least 50%
Yes, that's true. If I was him I would push for 5 million more to 30 million not 100 million. Then upgrade to buy 1/4 in Kerarapon 10 million and build a mansion of 7 million which is bigger and better than this. Salvage saves him 500,000 to 1 million that can go to other usage. 3 million goes to biz and 10 million savings in T bills to keep me going for years without losing a cent. Lakini greed inaonyesha MTU that anaweza toka from Rongai to Karen.

Wamesema hawakupewa notice.
One peculiar thing with Kenyans I've observed. You will be given notice to vacate for months or even years. Often with a very vibrant X marked on your property.
All that time you do nothing. Others try to use backdoor channels to have the X 'deleted'.

Alafu when the bulldozers roll, you claim no notice. Last minute culture.

Anyway, when the government comes knocking, just take the money and go elsewhere. You might delay the demolition but it will eventually happen.

Kweli watu hawajipendi. Wanajitesa tu.
2016 land prices around Nairobi were not as high as today. Saa hii that 25 million will see them moving much further from CBD than they would have in 2016. Saa zingine you cut your losses and move on.
