Places to visit and stay in Coastal kenya

Vipi Wadau,

Missus and I are planning on a 4nights trip to the Coastal Kenya (possibly not just limited to Mombasa). My feeling is there’s quite more that other towns (Lamu, Mpeketoni, Malindi and Kilifi) have to offer, beside the default Mombasa. Nevertheless, it would be nice to spend like a day in the capital (Mombasa). This is more-or-less going to be our first time here, so we’re kind of strangers. Obviously, we’re not ‘mirrionaries’, otherwise i would probably be consulting a travel agent. To the point now:

What are your recommendations on:
a) Good affordable places to stay in any of the above towns. Budget is ~5000 per night (for two)
b) Interesting places to visit in any of the above towns.
c) Any other advice you wish to dish out.

Thanks in advance.

For your budget, add 1,500/- per day to make it 6,500/- and go to Cowrie Shell Beach apartments. You’ll save even more since you can cook in-house. The apartments are also by the beach. I’m sure she will enjoy the beach and pool as well.
The room is also decently furnished.

You can check them out online

Kilifi is boring enda tu utembee but don’t dare stay huko

Look up Kikambalala Jumia resort Kilifi.

That’s doable. Just checked them out and seems really good, and has good online reviews. Saw the studios are 7k with 1Br 10k (From their website), hoping they’ve got some discount for the 1Br, given its off-peak. Thanks a lot for the info.

Aha, noted. Any specific reason why we shouldn’t stay there? Security or just the place?
Thanks

Tried looking up for this online but unfortunately didn’t find it. Only close place i’m finding is ‘Jumuia Beach Resort Kanamai, Kikambala’. Could this possible be what you meant. Thanks.

Yes, check it out.

kumejaa unchafu kama mobasa

If it’s just your and your spouse, you may not need the 1brd. The studio is very big!
Alafu you can always bargain while at there. For 6K you’ll always get.
Iki shindikana I can hook you up for a house at Sunset Paradise Holiday Homes.

Airbnb has some good options as well

Just me and her, so the studio as you say will do. I’ve also checked Sunset Paradise Holiday Homes and they seem good too. This will probably be the 2nd option if we spend 2 nights in Mombasa.

Also, we’re planning on visiting Gede ruins. Any suggestions on places to stay in Malindi or thereabouts.

Again, thanks a lot.

Aha, don’t know how i missed this. I’ve already seem some interesting options. Shukran.

Airbnb is the only way nowadays

This is what I usually do when I’m with madam. First stop Kilifi County. Remember Kilifi County has Malindi, Watamu and Kilifi town all within a short driving distance of each other. Anza na Malindi, day 2 enda Watamu, day 3 Kilifi and your last day spend it in Mombasa then cross over to Diani and spend the night in Diani. There are shuttle services from Diani to the SGR terminus in Miritini, use those as you head back to Nairobi

Thanks for sharing this

Hio ni kibanda boss, unatuma mtu akasumbuke tu bure

Apartments going for as low as 3k now within Nyali area. If you are driving it’s easy, you can access the beach.
Bamburi Beach as well, apartments ziko along hio line ya Whitesands.

Try ziwa beach resort or Masai bamburior palm city. Indiana Beach too within your budget, and all ziko walking distance to the beach.

Diani is better for a quite getaway, most are cottages, from 5k a night, self catering. You can get a chef at 1k per day, send him to the market and fish market too, for a sea food menu experience you will enjoy.
Lamu-fly there

Shukran Muria, for your detailed suggestions. Will surely have to consider those. Will give them a call and let you know what happens. Again, thanks.

Chipolopoplo.

Coastal parts of Kenya have got several places that one can visit and stay. The Mombasa beach is much popular; people go there for sun bathing. The beach is very beutiful and attract several people. There are numerous physical features that attract people to the coast. The Gedi Ruins are some of the historical sites that contain a lot of information. I like the coastal part of Kenya. In fact, I am planning for refreshment in that region. The Changamwe oil refinery plant is also very important to visit. I think, the beauty of the ocean contributes to the overstaying of people at the coast. It is said that those who stay in the coastal region do not like their original homes.
