Pluto flyby

@Bangi iwe huru: I’m watching the news on Aljazeera and they are showing pictures of the spacecraft as it makes the flyby. From what I understand, that Horizons is the only spacecraft out there and I know there are no satellites orbiting Pluto. How, then, is it possible to take photos and videos of the spacecraft out there?

i read that it left the earth in 2006, what kind of fuel does it use?? or its solar charged??

It uses what it is called gravity assist…basically once it got shot out of earth’s gravity it flew towards Jupiter at a trajectory that got it caught in it’s gravity which increased its velocity. Then was flung out again in a trajectory towards pluto.

Commands have to be sent days prior

Valid question right there.

2006 wow! 8 yrs en counting…

Pioneer 10 and 11 were launched in 1972 and 1973 and are still moving. They have escaped from the solar system. Ati it takes around 14 hours for sunlight to reach Pioneer 10 and that if it continues moving in the current trajectory, it will reach a star called Aldebaran in 2 million yrs

could there be life on Pluto?

Aldebaran was a planet and the empire destroyed it a long time ago…in a galaxy far far away.

Let me correct myself, it was ALDERAAN that was destroyed.
My apologies to everyone…and the empire.
