Alai says they are here and, surprisingly, that they are superb. If the guy says they good, then they must be terrific!

Unfortunately they will be exclusively used to ferry VIP’s especially the ones who legally can’t use military ones…dp

@Jazzman kuja hapa and give us the low down.

Yes, let us show the terrorists and criminals what we will use to defend ourselves. It’s not like they are smart enough to exploit weaknesses. They are not ISIS… wait…

Kudos, we bought its new and directly from Agusta Westland without any middlemen

The AgustaWestland AW139 is a 15-seat medium-sized twin-engined helicopter developed and produced principally by AgustaWestland. It is marketed at several different roles, including VIP/corporate transport, offshore transport, fire fighting, law enforcement, search and rescue, emergency medical service, disaster relief, and maritime patrol.[3] In addition to AgustaWestland’s own manufacturing facilities in Italy and the United States, the AW139 is produced in Russia by HeliVert, a joint venture between AgustaWestland and Russian Helicopters.

@Jazzman we discussed KDF getting new choppers as well to replace the old Puma and we didn’t consider AgustaWestland’s AW149 multi-role military helicopter

AgustaWestland AW139. Widely used for search and rescue by militaries and troop transport by gendarmeries and police forces. Beautiful bird!!! Medium lift so can carry an AP team/recce team and the equipment they need by slingload. I hope that’s what they’ll be used for. I honestly thought they were rumours that’s why I never put up anything on them here.

And this is some new shit, not refurbished as the bird first flew in 2001. Wamenichapa 10-nil. I honestly thought they were rumours or meant for the army/air force.

You are right, or maybe we learnt from the mistakes that happened leading to delayed response during garissa attack

Now with your seal of approval i’m happy. Now i hope KDF look into the military version. Since we got this then it wouldn’t be hard and KDF can be servicing both.

I was looking at KAF replacing the lift capacity the Pumas provide and forgot to even look here instead we wandered to the larger merlin and NH90.

Let me laugh at myself first

With this surprise, I cant wait for what KDF will pull out of the hat. They probably already have techs and mechs to repair these ones.

Having the same version would be advantageous to the treasury and Kenyans at large if these guys get cheeky enough to ask for a technology transfer like Bell helicopters building/repairing the helos here.

No wonder sometime back KPAW were looking for “the best and the brightest” to join them.

No actually KDF was right, the reason they picked Russian new version of Mi-8/17 is because of one reason. Its a fully armoured flying tank and offcourse being russian is cheap to maintain and service. That said there is room for both. http://www.russianhelicopters.aero/en/helicopters/military/mi-817/photo.html

This Mi-24 Super Hind would have been the better flying tank as the 8/17 is mainly multirole

But the Mi-17 in KDFs inventory are mainly used for transport/spec ops. I’ll put up a thread in a few.

Wow!!! Real morale booster!

That thing is bad ass!! It’s a fully functional attack helicopter with capacity to carry 8 fully kitted troops. Yaani come pound my positions, drop special forces on me, support them then pick them up when the job is done
