poultry farming in .ke

yesterday i connected with a longtime friend of mine from the Mt. Kenya region , who happens to be a small scale poultry farmer. he is into eggs selling. he told me though that eggs from UG are killing them, as it’s hard to compete with their prices.
my question is though, does UG have better agriculture policies than us, or is it a matter of chicken coming home to roost, after many years of political patronage, where people from the right tribes were given preference at the expense of those who were better qualified ?

UG has a lower standard of living, it’s just like how avocados are cheap here but expensive in the US.

Plus eggs don’t need processing so you’d find powdered milk is more expensive there than it is here.

hapa majibu itakuwa ngumu juu umechanganya kuku, bata (mzinga na kiengei), kware. kanga na sijui nini ingine…

was it @Abba who once wrote, that it was cheaper for them to buy fertilizer from UG side, of which this fertilizer passes thru .ke.

Hapa cjui, they maybe imposing little duty on their fertilizer or they may be importing more than us.

UG cost of doing business is cheaper because
1)cheap labor unalipa mshahara kidogo
2)low taxes
3)cheap raw materials ziko readily available Kama feeds materials
4)Cheap fuel ya kufanya kazi

Animal feed in uganda is cheap…

Apart from labor, are the other 3 factors that the G.o.K should be concentrating on.
There was a time we had Unga feeds, which had high quality products.

impossible… corruption imemaliza sisi… We are concentrating on articificial bloated budget which ends up in individual pockets

Yes ile fertilizer ya miwa was 400 cheaper in ug than kenya yet they passed by kenya on the way to ug. You got good memory son

So it’s true the chicken is coming home to roost. What is this thing that Mtukufu Rais keep on talking about, ease of doing business in .ke ?

that’s PR… in Kenya manufacturing is on its deathbed

Their chicken feeds are cheaper because of less taxes. We have aLL nonsense of taxes: vat, import, duty call it. When you add these the prices become very high.Slowly the Kenyan policy is pushing kenya to be a net importing country because the govt gets quicker and traceable money that way at the port. This is a treacherous path where only importers gets rich and others have no jobs.

Raw materials za kutengeneza feeds ni cheap huko.

Tumepagwa sawa sawa, MP Alfred Keter was on TV the other day, saying that those responsible for importing maize, are now all over maize growing region, telling farmer to start planting other farm products, so as the arena is left for them.

Yep

Word, old man. Over taxation

may also be from south Africa via UG:)

I heard from a not very credible source that egs from Uganda are imported from South African large scale farms.

Kenya is a man eat man society… Period
