Pumwani my thoughts

My fellow Kenyans, I am deeply dismayed by the failed state Kenya is becoming. Have you noticed that things seem to be getting worse and worse but the taxes keep going up?

First off why were Pumwani hospital staff on strike or go slow? They had not been paid by the county maybe? Now why do we have county government and federal or national government if at a crucial moment like this doctors and nurses can not be paid on time? Kazi ya serikali ni wizi Tuu? I thought we were under new regime with brigadier?

I have never been around a woman giving birth but I’ve watched about nurses in Britain who work in a Pumwani type hospital designated only for giving birth. It’s not a joke giving, you can die, the baby can die, you can both die. The rot in Pumwani and in all other government institutions is just cascading from the top. You can not steal Covid millions then expect nurses to work with out pay. I’m not defending them but even the baby selling syndicate is because of the bad example they see at the top of abuse of office to get rich.

The culture of impunity in Kenya will escalate to unmanageable levels very soon. These are just the signs of the times bcz as Kenyans tumezoea kuibiwa and systems that are not working. I mean it’s so heartbreaking to see a mother giving birth on the dusty road outside the hospital.

I believe a paybill number will be up soon, let’s support this young mother. What she went through is very traumatizing even for a spectator like me who know only cramps. Awhile back I lost a friend who was giving birth to her 4th child via CS. I have lost a sister in law who died in CS for her first born. Giving birth should not be a death sentence for women. Women should not be abandoned to give birth on floors and outside hospital gates. We thank God that mom and baby are fine but it could just as easily have been fatal.

Giving birth is not a walk in the park. But this is even easier than carrying for 9 months. My body has never fully recovered.
Nilimalizana na Kenya kapsaa when they ‘ate’ the covid funds. That is sinking way too low with Murathe behind it all. Instead of providing us with a report of how this happened, they arrest Sudi to keep us busy. Haki we are on our own.
Does this woman have other kids? Regardless, people should stop kuzaana if they have no means. It is condemning a child to a life of abject poverty.

Majority of Kenyans are poor, so if they stop giving birth and wealthy people don’t want to have many kids even if they can afford it, then the population will plummet and these poor people are the ones doing the hard work of keeping the economy together.

I really disagree on poor people having many kids. V unfair to subject a child to a life of poverty. One should be enough but 7,8…naaaaah.
Kama sasa I have lost count of the people ‘asking’ me to jump in again, think it is a Kenyan cultural thing. My MiL has hinted several times…she will be waiting for a vvv long time.

We should not produce to provide resources. People in Europe have v few kids per household and consequently there is enough to go round. And I won’t blame our inept gava on this one. Pia sisi tujipange.

Problem with us Kenyans is that we (pretend to) work in Pulses of sensationalism. Now a woman is giving birth on the road, everybody is on outcry. When this very thing happens everyday. What happens to us the other times. Are we just now seeing this level of corruption and lack of empathy.

We knowingly and enthusiastically elected corrupt leaders. And are fighting tooth and nail to bring in the next core of crooks. You reap what you sow.

Children are the wealth of the poor, we cannot begrudge them that. It’s all they have. What would give them the impetus to do the hard work of walking for 2hrs to and from to get nominal pay?

The West is having negative population growth and moslem and other strategic immigrants will soon take over. Human resource is key in any nation.

We know but now some things we did not know about are being highlighted that in spite of being in the middle of a pandemic and stealing covid millions nurses and health workers are not being paid by the county. What kind of negligence is this surely?

Under Uhuru govt maternity services in all public hospitals were made free so i don’t see why the woman was denied services. Also how can a doctor who has taken the “Hippocratic oath” stand by and watch a woman suffer like that on the tarmac? Those so called doctors at Pumwani are criminals who should be brought to book and removed from the roll of medical doctors. and banned from practicing medicine anywhere in the world.

How come Machakos is doing so well with free maternity health and not nairobi?

https://www.capitalfm.co.ke/news/2017/07/machakos-counts-benefits-jubilee-free-maternity-programme/

The Conservative gava has ensured that ukizaa watoto mia tano like the somalis do… you will be squashed in a small house. Unlike in the past when the local authorities would bend back and forth to find accommodation for a family of 12. Welfare Benefits are capped. And it is worse in other European countries.

Children cannot be wealth for the poor. It is punishing them.

So doctors will no longer deliver free maternity services as they have been doing just because funds to fight a recent disease from china are said to have been lost? Havent we been seeing the rot at pumwani even before covid despite all the billions nairobi receives in devolved funds? Also why cant the county build other maternity hospitals (eg in each constituency) coz puwani was built when nairobi had 1m residents biut now has over 5m?

At least Covid hasn’t killed that many as of yet. But how many women die daily in those same hospitals due to poor care, lack of required medication…?
Medication is stolen and sold to private pharmacies daily.

Reproduction is a basic human right and therefore no one should dictate to anyone on the number of kids one should have. But from a biological point of view, all couples should have at least 3 children for the population to sustain it self, i.e 2 children replace the mum and dad when they die and the 3rd one replaces individuals within the population who die without reproducing. A population where families have 3 kids remains constant, those societies with 3+ kids leads to population growth but those with less that 3 like developed countries leads to declining populations. Stagnant and declining populations are not good for society since you need more and more youthful workforce to grow the economy and pay pensions for the aged. Just like when a company grows and becomes more wealthier/profitable it needs more employees, when a society develops more it needs more citizens to ensure prosperity and that is why prosperous developed countries with reducing populations are forced to import labour ie take in immigrants. And the ultimate result will be that immigrants will replace the native populations.

I am not sure why we even need to sustain the population. What’s the problem if it declines? After all, the population of Kenya in 1963 was 8 million and we were doing fine.

Do you want us to become extinct like the dinosaurs? It’d be very selfish of us to refuse to reproduce and sustain the human population. If our ancestors did their part in sustaining and growing the human population for thousands of years we should not be the generations that will doom the human species to extinction.

So what if the population of Kenya is 1 million. Whats the problem. We were 2 million in 1920. Was there a population problem? Canada is almost the size of Africa. Population of only 35 million. I dont hear them with a population problem. Which country has ever reduced population to extinction?

Meanwhile its parte after parte for the guy in charge. Health is devolved.

This is an extreme oversimplification of a very complex variable. Whatever you are describing is fine for first world countries but it does not translate in 3rd world countries.

I understand most African countries have over 70% of their population being youths 18 to 35. Why isn’t it translating into prosperity and growth of the economy? Like in Kenya we have over 11 million unemployed or underemployed youths.

That’s an oversimplification

Kenya Bureau of statistics say 60% of urban dwellers reside in slums

Excuse me sir. This is factually wrong. Canada is not almost the size of Africa.

Seconded.
@johnpombe rather than being 40 mil with kedo 80% poor backward low productive poorly educated even hio 8 million well educated upwardly mobile would do in my opinion.
Quality over Quantity.
