Radical reforms in the civil service - 3 years contracts

The government has frozen the “permanent & pensionable” terms of employment for entry level positions.
These are part of reforms to modernise our public service. Expect efficiency moving forward.

@spear are there plans to increase the retirement age from 60 to 65 years ? I have a friend who is retiring this July and says he got rumours there is a circular but haijafika etc…
@gashwin kuna kitu kama hiyo?

The retirement age will not be increased.

Good Idea. You don’t deliver – nje

thats good news , though more than 27K employees will exit by July 2020.
Rotich in this years budget has frozen employment in non- critical sectors…
Will this not seriously affect the public service?

I don’t support this

And this should include Cs,and CAS ama hao sio civil servant’s

yeah ,lazy ,inefficient employees will not have their contracts renewed .

They serve at the pleasure of the President. …they can be fired even 2 weeks after appointment. …uliza Achesa akupatie story

This will have a bad effect later. Imagine having retirees with no pension

sijasikia…i am meeting some gov people in an hour nitauliza.

on this one i wish to differ…going by the low standards i have seen in a lot of graduates they will be taking one to two years to break in and train…the government will therefore be paying for about one year of good service. let us hope the contracts will be renewable so the government benefits from experience.

I think there will be some sort of gratuity at the end of the contracts …

how will competence be determined ? why don’t they put the same measure now ? what about the other arms of government , like the judiciary ?

It is already happening, i know a nurse employed just last month by West Pokot County on a 3 year contract, shida ni salo inachelewa kama nonsense.

nah ! ! !

I think 5 year contracts would be better . 3 years is a short period of time considering it be entry level.

performance contracts with clear set targets

I think the problem is sometimes the late disbursements by treasury

really?
Atwoli ataleta shida saaana

The problem is the recruitment process, it does not matter if you give someone a lifetime contract or a few months contract, if you have the wrong person for a particular job they will not deliver

In government it’s not so simple, hata wale ambao hawaskizani with the bosses watakanyaga frame. Then government will have very high turnover since haujui if your contract will be renewed, ukipata job private sector unakanyaga inje. Some offices will remain vacant for long since government takes very long to hire
