2. Motor Scout was the first armed petrol engine powered vehicle ever built. It was not intended for running over ploughed fields or charging but designed to provide a cover or support infantry and cavalry wherever good roads were available. It was designed and built by British inventor F.R. Simms in 1898. He mounted a standard mark IV Maxim machine gun above the front wheels of a quadricycle. The Maxim gun took, with its readily accessed 1000 rounds of ammunition, the place of a second rider.

A kamba couple in or near Nairobi : Photo was taken btn 1906 and 1918.

The Kamba lady is easy recognized from the huge ear bangles and the extra long necklace worn by married Kamba ladies.
