Today the world press was awash with stories of white giraffes recently spotted in Kenya.

The Sun of UK claims , it is the first time a white giraffe has been captured on film, while the respected Reuters and the Daily Nation of Kenya claim , the first case of an albino giraffe was recorded in Tanzania in 2016.

What they don't know is that the first recorded case of a white giraffe by a human being was in the Maasai Mara Kenya on 13th June 1938 .

The animal was recorded using a 16mm colour film by Colonel Macnab Snyder during his African expedition.

Macnab then travelled to Nairobi to inform the Kenya Game Department about the rare sighting. The commissioner promptly issued a decree placing the giraffe under government protection .

The creature became an official ward of the British Crown protected by a ring of Game Wardens at all times.
