Many political pundits have for long been scratching their heads trying to figure out what was the deal between Uhuru and Raila behind the famous March 2018 handshake.
From the events and speeches coming out of the Uhuru visit to Kisumu, there’s no doubt one of the agreements reached was for Uhuru to return the favor extended to Mzee Kenyatta by Jaramogi when he said Kenya couldnt get independence without Mzee as the president something that Luo’s have for long groused about.
Uhuru seems to have decided to return the hand and support Raila for the presidency in 2022.
That explains why Raila has been so keen to uncharecteristically submit himself to Uhuru.
Stop making your own history. What evidence is there to show that Jaramogi refused to be president because Kenyatta was in jail apart from Jaromogis book which he wrote after their relationship became sour?
I don’t think so. At 50 WSR has a 30years gap to get where RAO is. Meaning he is the only one who will fight the longest. 2022 can be denied from him but he still leaves to vie few elections later.
He was actually approached by the Governor of the time and asked to form a government. He refused and said that Kenyatta must be released first. I personally consider this to be a major political blunder on Jaramogi’s part but its a good thing Kenyatta came to power as Jaramogi was at this time starting to lean towards communism.
Before anything is made formal politically, there are always back-room maneuvers to avoid the embarrassment of making it formal and the person denying, in this case, to form a government. Also, these backroom meetings make sure everyone is on the same page.
