Road Trip from Nairobi to Zimbabwe

Whats up wadau?

I was intending to give myself a treat in the course of 2019.

I want to travel from Nairobi to Harare, Zimbabwe on road.
My plan:

(Day 1) Nairobi - Arusha - Dar Es Salaam

(Day 2) Bangaiza Dar for One Day

(Day 3) Dar - Zambian border (Alternatively, I could go by train from Dar to Kapiri Mposhi in Zambia. It costs about 10k and the journey takes 3 days)

(Day 4) Border - Lusaka

(Day 5) Bangaiza hapo Lusaka

(Day 6) Lusaka - Harare

Has anyone of you ever done this route, either by private or public means? If you are a a quail, and you have the sufficient funds required, we could plan.

Seems like a trip of a lifetime. You’ll get to feel the heartbeat of Africa

hii trip inatakaa mtu ako vacation

watu wa biz tulilaniwa aki 3 days bila kuenda hustle huwa tunakaa kama watu wamekuwa unemployed for years

hahahahaha, what a funny comment!!

Really looking forward to it

hahahahahh, slay queens nawaelewa.
So nadai mama mature kidogo

Yeah man, I know. It can be very tiring, but i love such adventures

Who are you man? This is on my bucketlist for next year too…mimi naenda victoria falls so far ive been told No night driving for foreign plates in Zambia

Big up kaka for sharing the same dream as me. Yeah, most of these souther countries dont allow public travel at night, though am not sure about driving on a personal. Victoria Falls is a must see for me as well

Nimesikia kuna bridge inajengwa you dont have to go through Zim

If you are self driving;

Advantages:

  • you can go at your own pace
  • freely visit the sites
  • buy surveniors to haul back to 254
  • dryfry kunguru kwa gari:D:D:D
  • ukifika mahali late and no need to check in unaweza lala kwa ndai.

Disadvantages:

  • you will require carnet (pricey calculated on worth of vehicle) + comesa insurance to navigate all those borders
  • you will get shitfaced tired kama una drive peke yako
  • speed limit tz issa nuisance
  • fuel cost itaku dry-fry
  • foreign registration attracts attention.

Note: TZ is one mother of a large country road or rail uta spend atleast 2 days kabla ufike border. On the other hand tunduma to lusaka ni karibu +1000km.

Tips:

  • you need dedication ama utafika mahali and say fock it
  • carry dollars accepted everywhere (lower denominations advised though utapewa rate ya wana.)
  • tumia uber in dar its dirt cheap compared to normal taxis
  • beba a debit card thats not linked to your account kama zile i&m mpesa cards (swiping is free, withdrawal issa hkm)
  • have a day-bag secure your ish, most locals are friendly in tz and zambia not been to zim but met afew wako izzy.
  • tafuta backpacker spots way cheaper than conventional hotels cheki booking.com
  • book early and pay on arrival
  • kama unatumia tazara gojea mukuba express it leaves dar only on fridays, ukitaka kubali matokeo tumia the normal train.

I’m also planning to drive down to SA through Tz, Zambia and Botswana. Should be an epic road trip.

Thank you for this mate. Have you driven down to Joburg?

You have done a favor to everyone dude!!

Utabambika sana brathe.

Mimi joburg ata nilipwe siendi labda cape town

Chukua carnet na hauta sumbuliwa kwa border plus comesa to cater for tz na zambia nishtue ukienda naweza kuwa area code flani hapo.
