One is that he’d probably get support from the UK, Israel, Saudi Arabia and UAE, but Russia, China and the EU are not going to fiat it. Secondly, it would become HIS war, unrelated to previous conflicts, which makes his usual habit of blaming Obama impossible .
The reason why he called off a strike with minutes to spare is because he realized that he’s short on allies and does not know what to do if Iran decides it has nothing more to lose and targets Saudi Arabia or any other desert kingdom nearby. They shot a hi-tech US drone down, who knows what their air defences are capable of?
