sgr how much truth is here

SGR defeats the Uhuruto industrialisation promises. out of 7.8T of import carried inland, only 1.01T is ferried to Msa as Export. Its a conduit for import of cheap finished low quality Chinese products.

2 SGR Myths & reality
The China Roads & Bridges Corp signed an operations contract with Kenya Railways Corporation, which it charges exorbitant maintenance fees which are ‘viarable’, not fixed.

3 SGR Myths & reality
The contract required a local company to be registered to run the SGR, thereafter, KRC was compelled to loan the locally registered company sh.3.5B interest free with a long grace period

4 SGR Myths & reality
The juicy part of the contract: The ‘local’ SGR operator need not repay in cash/money! Its repaid by a variable service payment structure used to cancel out the debt in a unique way that in the end appears that its ke that lending the Chinese not viceversa

5 SGR Myths & reality
The Chinese who had been on the ground with equipments, were also to be paid 1.3B to mobilise equipment and acquaint themselves with the surrounding

6 SGR Myths & reality
since cash flow and forex vary, a special fund was set aside for sh. 3B to cushion this local operator’s cash flow. (they could only profit not incur a loss)

7 SGR Myths & reality
Another local setup, Africa star railway operations company was also set up to absorb all liabilities due to CRBC. Imagine, if they cannot be made to pay more than 10% of their fixed quarterly service fee, even if it is their fault

8 SGR Myths & reality
The CRBC and their ‘local’ operatives were given a 400B project but required to only give a 600M performance bond
The CRBC is the major shareholder in the local operatives, but the other mysterious shareholders… we’ll unveil how they were veiled

And the way I had defended this sham!

It’s a SCAM!

SGR is an expensive toy. It reminds me of a guy who bought a Fielder and only remained with Ksh11000 in his payslip. He couldn’t even fuel the car and spent most of the time parking it.

uhuru aliinamisha nchi ichukue sabuni. tiweni bila kusumbua.

I keep telling people a car is a liability unless it’s making (or at least saving) you money.

But you can have one if your income allows you.

By all means yeah. Just beware of what you are getting yourself into - insurance, fuel, maintenance, parking…
