Over 30, 000 Kenyans are among
those to be fired and expelled
from the world’s youngest nation,
South Sudan, following a
Government directive.
The Tuesday directive by the
Ministry of Labour and Human
Resource ordering companies and
private firms, including NGOs, to
fire all foreign workers, including
Kenyans, and replace them with
South Sudanese, has shocked the
entire world because the country
is just from civil war and needs
experts to fix its economy.
The Salva Kiir-led Government
gave companies and firms
operating in South Sudan exactly
one month to ensure by 15th of
October, all foreign workers are
fired and expelled from the
country and replaced by
competent South Sudanese.
“All institutions, corporations,
business entities, NGOs are asked
to advertise for vacant positions
by October 15 th,” read the
circular signed by Mr. Ngor
Kalong Ngor, the country’s Labour
Minister.
The positions that must be
reserved for South Sudanese are;
Executive Directors, Personnel
Managers, Human Resource
Officers, Secretaries, Public
Relations, Procurement, Front
Office and Receptionists.
The order is similar to the one
given by Ugandan dictator, the
late Idi Amin Dada, in 1972
expelling Asians.
Among the Kenyan companies
operating in South Sudan and
which will be ffected greatly
include EABL, KCB, Equity Bank,
Cooperative Bank and CFC among
others.
It must be noted that Kenya is
the one that spearheaded the
Comprehensive Peace Agreement
(CPA) that led to the
independence of South Sudan in
2011.
