Why is there a significant difference in the cost between Singapore Mercedes Benz vs Japan Mercedes Benz? Anyone who has imported from Singapore can share some insights.

i would guess difference in purchase power. maybe they’re more common in singapore hence ditched for the cheap, or singaporeans upgrade regularly and offload their old ones. could be friendlier terms of export cost, less bureaucracy, [do we have an inspection of quality agreement with singpore"]. i heard here on ktalk, but can’t and didn’t bother to verify, that singaporeasn change the mileage reading.

like the singaporean toyota is made in thailand. I dont know if it affects quality, but I suspect it would. I observed that new kenyan toyota corollas tend to be base trim, manual, and with larger engines than the japan ones. they also look very different.
Quality and inspection. Japan has more stringent methods of inspecting vehicles meant for export compared to Singapore. So ukibuy Singapore unabahatisha tu, you risk getting a vehicle that isn’t mechanically sound.
Japanese cars are inspected and graded. If you buy the highest grade car, you are assured of an accident free, mechanically sound vehicle. But it costs more.
The lowest graded ones are generally cars that have been in accidents or have some kind of defect. These are likely to be in the same price range as the ones from singapore.
Better buy the japanese ones.

german mercedes are superior made in terms of fit and Finish and tend to not fall apart earlier compared to those made in other places like mexico and South Africa
Japanese made toyotas last the longest compared to those made in the usa and other places.

Singapore cars are modified to suite their standards,have more extras and seem cheaper. No pre shipment @ Singapore so it’s done here in Msa by Kebs. This means very many poor quality cars make it through,making it almost a 50/50 chance of getting a clean car. Japan you will get the basic model but there is thorough inspection before auction (where most sellers get to buy their cars, and this is based on grade category). Same pre-shipment company doesn’t automatically translate to same quality of work. Japan’s auto industry is highly monitored by their government and you can expect them to demand better standards from the company. Singapore probably has loose rules governing car inspection so more garbage is exported, after all the second hand car business isn’t a big part of their economy. Their objective is to get rid of old cars. For Japan, if it doesn’t enforce standards for selling old cars, its market for new vehicles may be affected. Singapore is not a major exporter of new cars. Same company, but different regulatory environment.
To add to this. ex-Singapore vehciles are mosty ex-uk imports. so you can imagine they have been thoroughly used in u.k then Singapore then mtumbwad in Kenya and African markets. if u take nte Singapore vehicles have extremely high mileages and the german vehicles have mileage in miles rather than kms to justify the ex-uk. now lets say most ex Singapore on average come with nothing less than 300-400,000miles. (Kenyans def rewind this to lie to u a shiny car is clean) thus the problems over and over facing buyers locally. this is verifiable from dealers from Singapore. sio porojo.

These vehicles are never exactly the same and are normally customized for different markets… humidity, road conditions, sensitivity of the sensors, etc are different for different conditions… Even DT Dobie Mercs are not the same as imported Mercs of the same model number
